The Angels reportedly agreed to sign right-hander Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $7-million deal with plans to put him in the rotation.

Lorenzen has also played outfield throughout his big league career, making him baseball’s second most accomplished active two-way player, behind Shohei Ohtani.

The deal, reported by Robert Murray of Fansided, has not been confirmed by the Angels. Murray also reported the Angels would use Lorenzen to start, which he hasn’t done regularly since 2015.

A product of Cal State Fullerton, Lorenzen has a career 4.07 ERA with the Cincinnati Reds. He started 21 games in 2015 but has started just five games since then. He had a 5.59 ERA in 29 innings in relief in 2021.

Lorenzen missed the first three months of the 2021 season with a shoulder injury. Lorenzen then missed two weeks with a hamstring injury suffered while running the bases.
