OC Register: Angels sign Juan Lagares to minor league deal

Recommended Posts

The Angels have signed Gold Glove-winning outfielder Juan Lagares to a minor league deal with an invite to big league camp.

Lagares, 31, could compete for the fourth outfield spot, behind starters Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Dexter Fowler. He could also serve as a late-inning defensive replacement.

The light-hitting Lagares has spent his entire big league career with the New York Mets, winning a Gold Glove Award in 2014. He has a career .659 OPS.

Lagares signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres just before spring training in 2020, but he was released before the season started in July. He then re-signed with the Mets, and appeared in two games, without coming to the plate.
