The Angels have agreed on a minor-league deal with veteran reliever Junior Guerra.

Guerra, 36, posted a 3.04 ERA in 2020 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who designated him for assignment about a week before the non-tender deadline in December.

Guerra has pitched parts of six big-league seasons, including four with the Milwaukee Brewers, and compiled a career 3.77 ERA. He was mostly a starter from 2016-18. In his career, he has a 3.90 ERA as a starter and a 3.42 ERA as a reliever.

In 2019 and ’20, Guerra was among the best pitchers in baseball at minimizing hard contact, similar to left-hander Alex Claudio, whoM the Angels signed as a free agent last month.

Guerra’s issue has been walks. He issued 4.3 walks per nine innings over the past two seasons, including 5.7 in the shortened 2020 season.
