THE GAME: Mike Trout’s three-run homer gave the Angels the lead for good in the third inning of a 9-2 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday afternoon before an announced crowd of 5,981 at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

HITTING REPORT: Trout went 2 for 3 with a strikeout and is batting .357 through six Cactus League games. … Kole Calhoun (3 for 3) singled to left-center field, hit a home run to straight-away center, and singled to right field. … Albert Pujols (2 for 3, double) is hitting .583 through five games. … Andrelton Simmons (0 for 3, strikeout) is batting .182. … Peter Bourjos (2 for 3, triple) is batting .526 through seven games as he bids for the fourth outfielder’s job. … Jo Adell (1 for 2) has a hit in each of his last four games.

PITCHING REPORT: Tyler Skaggs allowed four hits and one earned run, walked one batter and struck out four in three innings. … The left-hander allowed his only two runs when Trout committed a two-base error in the first inning. The center fielder lost a fly ball in the sun, then accidentally kicked it to right field, allowing Willson Contreras to complete a Little League home run. … Luke Bard, Cody Allen, Noe Ramirez, Taylor Cole and Dillon Peters each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
