Really seems like an Eppler Special. Still young, still has some pop and could be an option next year if the team decides Jefry Marte's no longer an option at 3B or won't hit.

Matt Skole was DFA'ed by the Nationals as well.
Being 28, he's probably getting pretty well entrenched as a AAAA guy, but  he has some lefty power and a decent eye. He'd be good AAA filler should the Marte/Cron depth shake-up this weekend somehow.

There might be some competition...no contract to worry about so you might see several teams willing to trade.

There will surely be a lot of DFA's in coming days as acquisitions push some guys off the 25 onto outright waivers and off 40 man rosters. Eppler excels in that department so it will be interesting to see who he plucks, especially if we wind up dealing away some MLB pieces and offer some immediate playing time.

You bring up a very good point. Our biggest acquisition at the deadline may not be a prospect we get in a trade, rather a player that squeezed out in a roster crunch.
