THE GAME: Matt Thaiss homered and the Angels (5-3) collected 16 hits in a 10-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals (4-4) before an announced crowd of 5,576 on Friday afternoon at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Jared Walsh’s two-run double in the seventh inning of a 6-6 game gave the Angels the lead for good. All 17 runs were earned in a game that lasted 3 hours, 40 minutes.

PITCHING REPORT: Angels starter Forrest Snow (2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 Ks) allowed a home run to Adalberto Mondesi to begin the game. … Hansel Robles allowed a three-run home run to Jorge Soler as part of the Royals’ four-run third inning. … Right-hander Jake Jewell allowed three singles and one run in the fourth inning. … Williams Jerez pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two.

HITTING REPORT: Seventeen Angels hitters reached base. … Mike Trout doubled to center field in the first inning and drew two walks. … Cesar Puello (1 for 2) drove in Jonathan Lucroy with an infield single in the second inning. The next batter, Kole Calhoun (1 for 3), hit a two-run triple to give the Angels a 3-1 lead. Calhoun then scored from third base on a wild pitch. … Matt Thaiss hit a towering solo homer to left field against right-hander Josh Staumont, tying the score at 5-5 in the third inning. Thaiss is 8 for 13 with 9 RBIs in spring training. … Brandon Marsh went 2 for 2 and scored a run.
