Angels can't hold on in extra innings after Mike Trout's two-run home run ties the game in the bottom of the ninth.

KEY MOMENT: Down by two runs in the ninth, Kole Calhoun double for his third hit of the game and Mike Trout hit a towering two-run homer to center field, his fifth of the season, against left-hander Sean Doolittle to pull the Angels even, 9-9. But Oakland went ahead in the 11th when Jed Lowrie singled and Josh Donaldson hit a run-scoring double to left against Yoslan Herrera. View the full article

What do you guys think? Their starting 2B is out for pretty much the season and they have to turn to Ryan Goins to fill in. I know it's too early to deal, but some times the best returns for your ball club are taking advantage of others needs. We could probably pluck a damn good reliever or starting SP prospect (close) for either. One thing is for certain, this club is rich in second baseman. Kendrick, Lindsey, Yarbrough and Green. Thoughts?

At some point, there are going to be specific thread topics related to Trout and his lack of clutch and I just wanted to preemptively point out a couple of things. It is actually quite rare for superstar players to perform as well in high leverage situations relative to moderate and low leverage situations. In these high leverage situations, superstars are keyed upon and game planned such that they aren't given the same opportunities as they might otherwise. As an example, Trout's obp is similar across all leverage situations yet his slugging % is much lower in high leverage. Why? He just doesn't get the same pitches. And he approaches the situation like he'…

Mike DiGiovanna @MikeDiGiovanna 2h It appears #Angels reliever Dane De La Rosa was recalled and placed on DL. Injury not believed to be serious. Sent to AZ to rehab. Mike DiGiovanna @MikeDiGiovanna 1m #Angels list reliever Dane De La Rosa's injury as right shoulder irritation. That's in addition to the forearm strain he had. Not good. shoulder issues, forearm issues....big drop in velocity. Yeah, not expecting anything from him this season

There hasn't been a lot of replay used in Angel games so far, but in watching other games, there have been quite a few disputed calls. What I have noticed more than anything else is how often, even after lengthy review, it appears that the umpires have been wrong.. and NY has still upheld the call on the field. Could this be the effect of having umpires in the review studio? I understand that all the umpires will take turns working the video room in NYC, so I'm wondering if this reluctance to overturn calls will continue. Also the time they are taking for reviews seems to be longer than it should, at least that is my perception. Maybe they will get better (and faste…

Think about it. We have some respectable prospects at a lot of other positions. In the near distance future I could see this C - Jackson 1B - Hinkle/Snyder 2B - Green 3B - Cowart SS - Rondon OF - Fish OF - Trout OF - Borenstein DH - Hinkle/Snyder SP - Santiago SP - Skaggs SP - Richards SP - Sappington SP - Morris There are a handful of future role-player types - Johnson, Yarbrough, Cron, Long, Hernandez, Bemboom, etc. The only real obstacle in getting this is 1) Finding a way to get rid of Pujols and Hamilton. I can see desperate teams trading for Aybar, Kendrick, etc but they'll avoid Pujols and Hamilton like the plague b/c of their co…

Dane De La Rosa was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, two days after the Angels optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. The club determined that the 31-year-old right-hander was injured after sending him down to the Minors. And since an injured player can't be optioned, they voided the move and instead put him on the 15-day DL, retroactive to April 13. View the full article

Let's take a look: Key: A Great - a stellar trade or signing that significantly improved the ball club. B Good - a solid trade/signing that somewhat improved the team. C OK - evens out - might have improved the club, but at an equal cost; or a decent signing. D Dud - a poor trade that hurt more than helped, and/or the players traded away were better. F Terrible - a disaster. TRADES Chatwood for Iannetta: C Iannetta isn't sexy but he's solid, at least he was in 2012-13. Chatwood was very good last year but there are reasons to believe he won't be more than a #4. Mathis for Mills: C+ I know, it got rid of Mathis, but Mills hasn't exactly added anythi…

I noticed that the replay challenge in the Sox-Yankees game Sunday night was shown on the big screen (obvious crowd reactions). The Angels organization has never given the paying fans the courtesy of showing any interesting or close game footage on the big screens. I am hoping they have finally seen the error of their ways, and let the paying fans see.

Was looking over the box score and noticed the Angels went 1 for 7 tonight with runners in scoring position. That takes their RISP Avg down to .167 which is 4th from last in MLB We can complain about the bullpen all we want, but we're not going to win many games when we're hitting .167 with RISP. I was in Arizona over the weekend and watched all three games the D-Backs had against the Dodgers. The D-Backs announcers were complaining about how terrible the team has been with RISP and they are actually better than we are. They are also 4-12 so I guess we've been pretty lucky so far in terms of staying a float. I know the offense has had some nice games so far, but …

This team was pretty killer with HRs. Look at this starting lineup: Troy Glaus: 47 HRs Mo Vaughn: 36 HRs Garret Anderson: 35 HRs Tim Salmon: 34 HRs Darin Erstad: 25 HRs Scott Spiezio: 17 HRs Benji Molina: 14 HRs Adam Kennedy: 9 HRs Benji Gil: 6 HRs Glaus, Vaughn (lol), Garret, Salmon, and Ersty hit a ton of HRs. 4 Players with 100+ RBIs, Salmon with 97. Solid offensive numbers all around, with Darin Erstad looking mighty close to Mike Trout. Those numbers are very impressive, and they reflect a GOOD hitting team: but this Angels team went 82-80 and didn't make the playoffs. Why? Look at the SP: Scott Shoeneweis: 7-10 5.45 ERA Kent Botten…
