Angels 1 - Tigers 2 Angels starter Hector Santiago offered a quality start, allowing just two hits and striking out seven over five and two-thirds innings. But four costly throwing errors lead to two unearned runs for the Tigers. That was all Detroit starter Rick Porcello and the bullpen needed as they held the Angels offense to just one run on seven hits. Click here to download the scorecard. This team is a joke without them. They had a good game Friday but we can't expect consistency out of this group. It's painful watching some of these guys at bats. Trout has obviously hit a slump and we can't live or die by how well he and Pujols are doing . Not to mention Conger is showing us why he's not the number one on this team and why Scioscia hasn't been so fond of him over the years. So frustrating.

FAIL! Shuck, Ibanez, Aybar and Freese have been absolutely atrocious at the plate (All hitting below the Mendoza line). Conger's arm was awful today. Can we have Conger's game calling ability, funny faces and Iannetta's throwing arm and plate discipline all in one catcher? #WeirdScience

KEY MOMENT: The Angels made three errors — on one first-inning play — to give Detroit a run. Ian Kinsler took off from first base on a full-count pitch that Miguel Cabrera took for ball four. Catcher Hank Conger, thinking it was strike three, tried to gun down Kinsler, but his throw sailed into center field, allowing Kinsler to take third base. Center fielder Mike Trout's throw went over second and bounced behind the mound for error No. 2, allowing Kinsler to score. Pitcher Hector Santiago retrieved Trout's throw and fired wildly past the plate as Kinsler scored, Cabrera taking second on error No. 3. View the full article

Trout and Harper, two of baseball's brightest young stars, were teammates in the Arizona Fall League in 2011. On Monday, they meet for the first time in a major league game. DETROIT — Mike Trout was 20 and Bryce Harper was 19 when they played for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League in 2011. Neither had set foot in the big leagues by then, but it was clear to Angels catcher Hank Conger, a Scorpions teammate, that both outfielders were destined for greatness. View the full article

Is Anaheim really that hard of a park to hit in? Maybe it is since I can't blame Hatcher anymore. However, maybe Arte IS cursed. I decided to look up who was the last starting position player acquired by the Angels during the off-season whose OPS actually went up during his first season here. I'm only considering guys who were a starting player for another team who were signed or traded for to be in the starting lineup here. I'm not considering guys who won a job in spring training, or due to injury. It's a really ugly list and all of these guys were acquired during Arte's ownership. Year / Player / Drop in OPS 2013 Hamilton -.191 2012 Pujols -.047 2012 Ianetta…

Since his first home run that he blasted in Seattle, he's hitting .324/.425/.676/1.101 with 4 home runs over 40 PAs. And that's with a freaking .233 BABIP which is weird. So those number's could be much much higher if I understand babip correctly. Big thing here, over that span he has a big fat zero in the strikeout department, and he's walking again now. I'm extremely optimistic with Pujols at this point, I think he's gonna have one of his best years with us this season. His swing looks flat out dangerous right now, he's crushing balls and coming up with big hits. I think this is the Pujols the Cards fans were used to seeing. So in my opinion...Albert's back…

The Angels' World Series victory in 2002 was the last Series win for the AL West division. This despite many successful seasons by the Angels, Rangers, and A's. And let's not forget the M's won 114 games in 2001.

The wife and I are making the trip to the Big A for Derek Jeter's last game at Anaheim on Wednesday, May 7. Originally we had planned to go down and back the same day, but with nine hours on the road plus the game, meals, etc., we decided this was too much. We are looking for a hotel in the general area of the stadium that won't break the bank but either has a shuttle to the ballpark or is within reasonable walking distance. In the past we have usually stayed at a hotel in Santa Ana off Dyer Road and 55, which would be OK if we don't find something closer. For this trip, since we're just coming for the game, proximity to the beach is irrelevant.

Sorry, but just had to get that pun in there. What a great night otherwise, though. That was as bad of a pitching performance as I can remember from a player.

I know it's a work in progress with Josh and Kole out, but I hope we see more of Cowgill and I think it's time to give Long a shot. Boesch is clearly not a capable player even coming off the bench. The real oddity is what JB Shuck has been doing. He's hit a couple of hrs and has flied out and popped up a ton. He's doesn't look good at the plate at all with just one BB. Still think Long would be a better option over he and Boesch. Hopefully they will notice soon. I'd even be willing to have look at green out there.

Oakland scores three runs in the bottom of the 9th. A walk-off single by Reddick beats the woeful Astros. Reddick had been in a horrible slump, but went 3-5 in this game. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/houston-astros-oakland-athletics-340419111/

Angels 2 - Tigers 5 A day after posting 11 runs on 10 extra base hits, Angels batters were stifled by Tigers starter Max Scherzer who allowed just one run — a J.B. Shuck solo blast to start the game — on three hits while striking out nine Halos over seven innings. Albert Pujols accounted for the the Angels’ second run with his 498th career home run in the top of the ninth. Click here to download the scorecard.
