The stat pundits were saying before the season that Santiago was due for major regression, while Angels fans were (wishfully) saying that he was going to be at least as good as last year or better. It seems that, so far, the stat pundits were right: Hector Santiago is an OK pitcher, a solid #4-5 type. This is just fine with me, especially with the development of Richards and Skaggs. From what I've seen so far, both Richards and Skaggs are going to be at leaste #3 types, if not #2 types - although probably not true aces. If we just accept the fact that Santiago is the #5 starter then he fits right in. If we are, however, expecting him to be a #3 or better--like some were …

Angels 3 - Yankees 4 Mike Trout began his game with a first inning solo home run. But the Angels could not capitalize on offensive opportunities, leaving six runners stranded in scoring position and ten overall. Starting pitcher Hector Santiago struggled in the third inning, allowing three of his four earned runs that included one run scoring on a bases-loaded balk. Click here to download the scorecard. After early-season struggles and stress that include four blown saves, four relievers combine for 3 2/3 scoreless innings. But Kevin Jepsen says there are no silver linings as Angels lose a thriller.

NEW YORK — "No. Moral. Victories." Kevin Jepsen made his point perfectly clear Saturday after the Angels lost a 4-3 thriller to the New York Yankees in which managers Mike Scioscia of the Angels and Joe Girardi of the Yankees matched wits like Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. View the full article

City's mayor has been successful in framing the debate on the deal in a way that it has halted the process, even though the city council has voted to approve the framework of an agreement.

You're the mayor. Frieri has struggled this season, with an 0-2 record, a 9.35 earned-run average and two blown saves in 10 appearances. A demotion last season helped him regain his form. NEW YORK — The alarming rate with which he was giving up home runs was not a huge concern for Angels closer Ernesto Frieri earlier this week. View the full article

Maybe this is a Craig...but how is it I haven't seen the video of the guy who almost caught the ball before...the one where it bounces off his hands and then he tumbles face first down the stairs? That is friggen awesome, I wish they had a close up of it. Look a second or two before the guy who ultimately gets it raises his arms.

I talked to an Angels exec recently and he said to expect a better showing this season from Ian Stewart. I then heard Rojas mention on the air today that Stewart worked out with Rod Carew in the offseason on his swing. They worked out quite a bit from what I was told. 1. Stewart had a better spring than Freese. Stewart batted .298/.370/.511 with three homers and six RBI over 47 spring at-bats. 2. His balance at the plate looks a lot like Josh Hamilton. Has much more raw power than Freese. 3. Ian is known to be a better 3B defensively. 4. Stewart was a top prospect, top draft pick, so he has the pedigree Freese doesn't have. 5. Stewart is hungry…

After watching the game tonight I think it is safe to assume that the crowd is going to have a Jetergasm every game for the rest of the year whenever he makes a play in the field, gets a hit, walks out of the dugout, etc.

Angles 13 - Yankees 1 The Angels struck early and struck often in their 12-run margin rout of the Yankees. The Halos hit four home runs including Albert Pujols’ 501st in the fifth and Erick Aybar’s three-run punch in the seventh. In all the Angles gathered 16 hits behind starter C.J. Wilson as he allowed just one run on four hits over six complete innings. Click here to download the scorecard. Hector Santiago grew up about a 20-minute drive from Yankee Stadium, in Newark, N.J., and has an entire section of people in the Bronx this weekend. Santiago estimated that roughly 350 people bought tickets to Friday's series opener, a 13-1 rout by his Angels. And he expects about 200 to be in the house when he makes his fifth start of the season on Saturday afternoon, opposite left-hander Vidal Nuno. View the full article

Albert Pujols hits home run No. 501 while C.J. Wilson gives up four hits and one run in six innings. AT THE PLATE: Erick Aybar, who tweaked his stance last Monday so he is more upright in the box, had four hits and four runs. With 11 hits in 17 at-bats in four games, he has raised his average from .175 to .275. Howie Kendrick, who had three hits and scored three runs, is hitting .425 (17 for 40) in his last nine games. Since the start of 2006, Kendrick's .357 mark (74 for 207) against the Yankees is the best among players with at least 200 at-bats against them. Hank Conger had two run-scoring doubles and an RBI single. View the full article
