DDLR: Dane De La Rosa (shoulder) threw a scoreless rehab inning Sunday at Triple-A Salt Lake. De La Rosa walked a batter but was able to work around the threat. He'll probably make two more rehab appearances before rejoining the Angels' bullpen. The right-hander has been out since mid-April with a shoulder issue. Hamilton: Josh Hamilton (thumb) is expected to begin taking live batting practice Friday in Arizona. Hamilton needed surgery in mid-April for a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and is likely to miss another 3-4 weeks. He is currently rehabbing at the Angels' spring training complex in Tempe.

C.J. Cron batted cleanup for Monday's series opener against the Yankees, which says a lot about how well the power-hitting prospect has fared against Major League pitching early on. But it may say even more about Raul Ibanez's struggles in general. View the full article

They are playing the Quakes on an early 11am start. It is so windy the left fielder is playing shallow enough to pickpocket the shortstop. Where he is standing Jonny Damon could throw a runner out at home without a relay throw.

Rangers 14 - Angels 3 The Rangers offense got to Angels stater Tyler Skaggs early and often, scoring six earned runs on eight hits off the lefty in just two and two-thirds innings. Texas would pile on eight more runs including five unearned in the final frame. Erick Aybar and Albert Pujols each belted solo home runs in the first before Texas starter Yu Darvish settled in. If the last week is any indication, the Angels' No. 1 prospect could be on his way to reclaiming his status as a top prospect at the hot corner. Kaleb Cowart carries a seven-game hitting streak into his game on Monday night, as Arkansas travels to Northwest Arkansas in an intrastate Texas League battle that can be watched on MiLB.TV. I'm pleased to debut this weekly feature that we'll be posting throughout the 2014 season by interviewing our longest tenured writer and contributor at AngelsWin.com, Adam Dodge. Adam has been not only a tremendous contributor to our blog, forum discussion and events over the years, but also a great friend -- met through none other than, AngelsWin.com. A few games back on TV the announcers went quiet for a short time and all you heard was the pop of the mitt and the call of the ump. It made me think, when you are at the game there isn't some one talking in your ear. Would the game on TV be just as enjoyable without someone talking in your ear? I remember NBC did a Football game years ago without announcers, but I think Baseball might actually work better. Would you watch a game without an announcer and just the sounds of the game?

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer Going into Spring Training, Angels fans all knew the goal for the start of the season: Have a winning record for the month of April. To make that happen, the coaching staff focused on making adjustments to the players’ routines during Spring Training, made changes in scouting and defensive alignments, and worked on improving situational hitting. While many of those changes have made improvements to the team, and helped lead the Angels to their first winning month of April in years, another change appears to also have been made: It appears that Scioscia has shortened the leash on struggling players in an effort to win…

AT THE PLATE: Erick Aybar and Albert Pujols hit solo homers in the first inning — it was the 502nd homer of Pujols' career — but the Angels managed little else against Rangers ace Yu Darvish, who gave up three runs and seven hits in 61/3 innings, striking out nine and walking one, to improve to 7-1 with a 3.82 ERA in 11 career starts against the Angels. Ranger Michael Choice hit a three-run homer and a run-scoring single; Prince Fielder had two run-scoring doubles and a single; .077-hitting catcher J.P. Arencibia had a solo homer, single and sacrifice fly; and Alex Rios hit a three-run triple for the Rangers. View the full article
