All in all, our pitching has been good, statistically speaking. As of 4:41PM 4/17/14: #2 in the Major Leagues in strikeouts. #7 in the Major Leagues in batting average against. #6 in the Major Leagues in HR/FB (which indicates we've been unlucky in that regard) We know we have a powerhouse offense (at least when 2/3 of our outfield isn't injured) so I think these pitching stats bode well for our future. Coming into this season, pitching was our #1 concern and it seems like Dipoto addressed that pretty well. His HR's notwithstanding, Trumbo is around the Mendoza Line and that trade is holding up pretty well as time passes.

Tim is a really good friend of mine, of AngelsWin.com and a true Angel Great. His knowledge of the game, history of the Angels and his service to the team and its fans is amazing. So join me in wishing Tim Mead a very Happy Birthday! Here's a clip from our last Dugout Talk session in ST this past March if you haven't seen it yet. This is an article I wrote several years ago about Tim as well. Tim Mead - The face of Angels Baseball Tim Mead speaks to the Angelswin.com gathering at Tempe Diablo Stadium By Chuck Richter - Angelswin.com Executive Editor “I do what I do because I love it, and the same applies to you, also. Tony Reagins (the Napoli scapegoat) is probably privately celebrating Dipoto's failing tenure as GM. Even Reagins didn't put our Angels in a hole this big. Must see the Tony Reagins celebration video

That's pretty amazing. We really could have won every game in this series against a good team and division rival. Focus on that Halos as you travel to Detroit. Go get em!!

Chris Iannetta hits a homer in the 12th inning to give the Angels a 5-4 victory over the A's, and give their spirits a huge lift as the team launches a 10-day trip, starting Friday at Detroit.

A win is a win. And Mike Scioscia figures his Angels need at least 90 of them to have a shot at returning to the postseason for the first time since 2009. View the full article

A's 4 - Angles 5 (12 innings) Angels starter Tyler Skaggs allowed four earned runs in six innings of work. Down 4-3 in the ninth, the Halos rallied to send the game into extra innings — their forth extend contest in six days. The Angels bullpen held the A's to just four base runners before Chris Iannetta blasted a first pitch, two-out game winning home run in the bottom of the 12th. Click here to download the scorecard. I'm looking for any reasons to continue watching outside of being a fan, hope and it's early, because after the recent losses on the field (injuries) and in the box scores, it eventually wears on me as a fan to the point where I don't give a crap anymore and would rather spend my time doing other things instead of getting frustrated watching the Angels lose more times than not. Anyhow, here's some reasons I came up with for myself and some that maybe relate to you. You can add to mine if you'd like. Mike Trout and his pursuit for an MVP Watch the back half of our young pitching staff grow into future studs in Richards, Skaggs and Santiago See Albert Pujols 500th…

I have enjoyed watching baseball and the Halos more than any other sport over the years. I'm extremely frustrated with the poor baseball this team has been playing for the past few seasons. Tonight I turned the game on in the 5th and saw them down 4-1 and lost all interest in watching the rest (watching a show about gold on the History channel now). It really bothers me that I feel this way because the Angels have a player in Trout that is a once in a generation type player and I'm not watching because the rest of it ruins the experience. They may win the game tonight but my interest in watching any games at all is dwindling. Just thought I'd vent here since most here are…

TURNING POINT: Chris Iannetta’s 12th-inning homer snapped the Angels’ two-game losing streak and gave them two extra-inning wins on a six-game homestand in which four games went to overtime -- the first time that’s happened since June 1975. The Angels sent the game to extra innings when Howie Kendrick beat the relay on a potential game-ending double play, allowing Mike Trout to score from third. Trout, who drove in the Angels’ first run with a third-inning double, and Albert Pujols had back-to-back singles to start the inning. Kendrick could have won the game two innings earlier but his two-out drive to the warning track in right was speared by Brandon Moss, whos…

I found this interesting article written about players who only played one year in the majors. The most interesting is Buzz Arlett who batted .318 with 18 home runs and a .925 OPS in his one season in 1931. He hit over 400 home runs in the minors. Interesting stories as to why some of these players only played one year http://prestonjg.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/one-and-done-the-sparky-anderson-all-stars/

Let's say the Angels continue to struggle and they decide to do something radical, like trade Howie Kendrick for pitching. Let's say Iannetta, Freese and Ibanez keep stinking up the joint. Here's the lineup I'd like to see for the second half: LF Calhoun CF Trout 1B Pujols RF Hamilton C Conger DH Cron 3B Green 2B Lindsey SS Aybar I know, that's a quesionable 5-9, but why not give it a shot? Obviously its early and Freese and Ibanez deserve time to get going. But I would like to see Conger play more, and it does seem like only a matter of time before Cron is called up. Just ruminating...

Some interesting things tonight...Grant Green had a couple more hits. He is now hitting .400. Yes, small sample size, but it isn't that small. Looks like he might be ready to hit major league pitching. Morin appears to have been promoted to AAA, and got lit up tonight (cue "he is ready to pitch for the Angels"). And the Burlington team stole 11 bases in their 18 inning game.
