"NASA's goal, inevitably, is to offer up the code so that the public use it to invent stuff their engineers haven't even thought of yet. This is actually part of the agency's charter, and in the six decades since its founding, NASA's provided the world—not just America and its allies—with the building blocks for all kinds of revolutionary technology." http://gizmodo.com/nasas-about-to-release-a-mother-lode-of-free-software-1558491761

Website can find your exact location with your phone number Is it possible to pinpoint your location with nothing more than a cellphone number? Absolutely. Your smartphone always knows where you are. And thanks to the Life360.com service, powered by technology from a company called Loc-Aid, a parent can locate a child by her phone number or even an elderly parent who has wandered away from home. Thanks to a free online demo at Loc-Aid.com, you can type in the cellphone number of anyone in the U.S. and find their precise location in just a few seconds. A guy I work with did something like this and found his wife cheating on him yesterday.

My friend, who is much more of a computer nerd than I could ever hope to be suggested that if I want to watch Angel games on mlb.tv in the local market, I could probably do so via a VPN. Thus, avoiding any blackout restrictions. Any one else, theoretically of course, think this could possibly work?

The Oculus Rift has lots of potential and is pretty much the leader in a practically untapped market so this move really comes as a surprise to me. I'm sure the vast majority of gamers will be disappointed with this news. It'll be very interesting to see what John Carmack thinks of this move and to see if he ends up staying with the company. http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/25/facebook-to-buy-oculus-vr-maker-of-the-rift-headset-for-around-2b-in-cash-and-stock/

Here in my neck of the woods we have two crappy choices for an ISP: DSL from Centurylink (which is awful) or cable from Suddenlink (which is a lot faster, but their hardware is terrible). After considerable research online I've decided I want to go with an ac router. My first choice was the Apple 2TB Time Capsule but after talking with a tech from Suddenlink I was told they have compatibility problems with Suddenlink data packets (whatever that means) and that Apple's Airport Extreme is not a good choice for their system. So I've been looking at a bunch of other set ups. For those of you that may have experience with Suddenlink or just have knowledge regarding this s…

This thread is about the first one. I've never played and to be honest only heard about it for the first time like 6 months ago. I looked into it and pretty much the main thing i hear is it's the hardest most frustrating game of all time, but people swear by it. I was wondering if any of you guys are Dark Souls superfans and why I should buy it and play it?

Right now I am running a Linksys Wireless G router on my home network. It has delivered solid performance, but with bandwidth-hungry additions like iPhones and Netflix streaming video, it's time to upgrade. My question is whether I should go to Wireless N or AC. I have read several articles on the topic that have cleared up nothing. I am interested in any experiences any of you have with either or both.

I'm in the market for a new router to go with my DOCSIS 3 modem I finally upgraded to. I was going through various routers and I'm really interested in this one. Does anyone have it or any experience with it? If so, how is it?

My birthday was on Friday and my lady got me a new Nexus 7 (2013) tablet from Verizon. I love this thing....especially with the 4G LTE on it. Still in the process of getting it all setup the way I want.

Samsung's Galaxy S5 On Monday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S5, its premium smartphone followup to the Galaxy S4, and a challenger to Apple’s iPhone 5s for the top smartphone in the world. The Galaxy S5 features a crisp (and large) 5.1-inch display; new health tracking features, including a physical, finger-based heart rate monitor on the back of the phone and a built-in app to log meals; and a fingerprint sensor, which, like Apple’s latest iPhone, will let you unlock the phone with the touch of your finger.

I recently setup a Raspberry Pi running RaspBMC in lieu of a Apple TV or similar device. It is an excellent setup. It connects to my NAS directly using NFS so I don't have to deal with uPNP/DLNA compatibility. To control it I am using FLIRC which is a tiny USB dongle that you can program with any remote. This is the guide I followed. http://mymediaexperience.com/raspberry-pi-xbmc-with-raspbmc/ All together it cost $100. $61 for the Pi and FLIRC, and about $20 for 32 gig SD card & 20 for the 32 gig USB drive. I used an existing ethernet cable, and micro usb charger to run it. You can get starter kits with those items plus the case for another 10 bucks…

I'd like to cancel my landline phone service -- but keep the landline number -- and have the calls forwarded (ported?) to my cell phone. Apparently this can't be done directly with Google Voice, you have to port the landline number to a throw away cell phone first, which isn't the end of the world. I'm just wondering if anybody has done this and/or has a better suggestion? What about Google Voice itself...how would this work on a smart phone?

I am doing some work to my house and have decided to hang my TV on a wall, without any exposed wires. I am going to put my DirecTV box/DVR in another room, but I need to know how I will be able to control my DVR if it is hidden in another room. Is there some sort of wireless sensor I can get that I can attach to my TV, and which will control the DVR? What if I want to also hook up a DVD player or receiver? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am having a technical issue with iTunes.Whenever I load the program I get the following message: The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes. I am running the most current version of iTunes on a PC running Windows 7. I have not installed any CD burning software. Reinstalling iTunes does not fix the problem. The suggested registry edit on the Apple website completely disables my CD/DVD drive, to the point that the computer doesn't even recognize that I have one (I reverted back to reenable it). I posed this question…

I can see tech nerds salivating at the thought of this and rightfully so. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/01/29/facebook_ocp_gallery/ The rest of you non nerds are going to be severely disappointed.
