It's had support for Netflix from the beginning and HBO Go for a few months now. I'm hoping for a screen mirror feature or something like Apple's airplay.

That's great but who streams netflix to their tv from a mobile device? And if you're an HBO subscriber you already have a cable box. Give me something I can use.

Lots of people, it's quite convenient.

Imagine if your putting some movie on for your kids that they wanna watch, instead of fumbling around looking for the dvd you can just pull out your phone and throw it on the screen.

chromecast doesnt actually stream anything from your mobile to the TV.

it doesnt have that functionality like airplay.

chromecast is just a way for your mobile to tell the TV what to stream. the chromecast just streams it from the internet.

for $25 or whatever its a good little gadget.

neat!

strange that chromecast didn't have native streaming.

downside is all that stuff (appletv too) goes through your router.

i think the next appletv hardware is going to have a router built in (basically appletv + airport express).

so then the hops aren't iphone -> router -> appletv -> tv, or internet -> router -> appletv -> tv

it would be iphone -> appletv -> tv, or internet -> appletv -> tv.

then they can prioritize apple content on your network. combine that with the huge CDN apple is building and they are set to become living room behemoth (basically what MS should have done)

good to see the SDK open up.

this is where gaming is going too.
