Ok, the time has finally come for me to buy my 1st laptop. I've managed to make do without one for the past 17 years of being on the net. I need one because I was invited as "Press" to https://collisionconf.com/ 4 weeks from now in Vegas, and I WILL need a laptop to "make it so". Most of what I will use it for will be to access my websites which are on hosted servers, social media, and some minor MS Office stuff, but Google Docs works fine with me instead of MS Word, it's photo manager that I do use somewhat. Not looking to spend a fortune, but need a reliable semi quick portable computer. What is out there laptop wise these days? What are your rec…

I'm in te market for a handheld GPS unit for plotting points on maps. It can't break the bank, but it needs to be reliable and accurate. I've used Trimble units, but they're expensive and I don't know how to utilize a fraction of what they're capable of. Anyone use this type of tech for work or fun?

First Samsung Galaxy Note 5 rumors hint at crazy 2K or 4K screen Same jumbo screen with 2K or 4K clarity Samsung's screens are known for being very bright, colorful, and bold. The Galaxy S6 upped the ante with a super high resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, which is typically referred to as a 2K screen. SamMobile suggests that the Galaxy Note 5 may also have a 2K resolution, but Samsung could also bump the screen up to 4K. If Samsung gives the Note 5 a 4K screen, it would be one of the very first smartphones with that kind of resolution. Of course, the higher the resolution, the more energy the screen will suck from the battery, which is something that typicall…

http://gizmodo.com/the-number-of-people-who-fall-for-phishing-emails-is-st-1697725476 Wow...hard to believe A study of 150,000 phishing emails by Verizon partners found that 23 percent of recipients open phishing messages, and 11 percent open attachments. Is that not crazy? One in 10 people opens an attachment when they have no idea what they’re opening.

Anyone here tried this? Supposedly you can basically watch anything you want for free, including movies at the theaters, and pay per view fights.

Several months ago I purchased a 7" Acer tablet. One of the things I do is read books and listen to music, which is fine when I'm connected to wifi. But I would like to listen when I'm not connected. Acer does have a built in program for this, but I was looking for something a little more robust. Maybe similar to iTunes for the iPad, where I could create playlists on my PC and save them to the tablet. Any ideas?

Snapseed is the mobile phone photo editing tool that Google bought a long with the rest of Nik Software. Nik Software is awesome...and for the most part Google has done shit with it since purchasing it a few years ago. I think they've been integrating the Nik tools in to Google Plus with things like Auto Awesome and the like. Nice stuff...but whatever. They recently just introduced Snapseed 2.0 for iOS and Android. For a mobile photo editing tool...it's quite impressive. If you are a photo enthusiast I would definitely take a look. Looks like there is a free web class from Kelby training. http://kelbyone.com/blog/snapseed You do have to give up …

MLB At Bat 1 2

I am looking for the best device to use for live streaming the MLB At Bat app. I have the full season package to watch the Angels but don't have a device to watch it on. The PS3 is in the living room. I can watch games in there. But most games are late (especially home games) and I would like to have something besides my iPhone to watch the games in the bedroom with start times so much later when they are at home. I would rather not spend $300-$600 on an iPad. Is there something larger than an iPhone that would have the MLB app that I could watch the games on? Would like to keep it under $200 if possible. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One of my external USB drives is having issues. The device connects to my machine (Windows 8.1), I get the pretty little chime...but it doesn't show up as a disk. I can see it shows up as a USB device when I go in to DeviceMgr, it even shows up as a USB Mass Storage Device. But it won't show up as a disk/volume in the Disk Mgmt Utility, ChkDsk, or DskPart. Doesn't appear to want to come up on a Mac either. Ideas? (yes, I know...backup...blah blah blah...this is an older backup drive that I was looking for some archived data on)

And I should have known better. One day last week my wireless all-in-one stopped responding to any print requests sent to it. I figured, probably a corrupted driver. Downloaded new drivers and installed them. Still nothing. Deleted the device and the drivers and reinstalled, didn't fix the problem. Network seemed to be working fine since I could still get online with my primary computer and my smart phone. After about three hours of working on the problem and getting nowhere I finally gave up on the printer and contacted Epson customer support. Their suggestions didn't help either. The next day, my wife said that her iPad and my stepdaughter's phone wouldn't connect t…

I'm looking for a recommendation to replace Google Talk which was discontinued last month. This is tougher than I imagined because most apps are mobile only, or if cross platform, they don't support XMPP's cool features, such as file transfers. Google Talk on the PC was a separate application that ran on boot and minimized to the system tray until used. As far as I can tell, most of the current apps run on the PC via Web interface, which means you have to have a browser open at all times...is that correct?

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/01/16/android-malware-increasing-getting-smarter/?intcmp=ob_homepage_tech&intcmp=obnetwork Most Americans still don't worry about malware on their mobile devices. But the halcyon days of Android innocence are fast coming to a close, according to a new report by San Francisco-based mobile-security-software developer Lookout, Inc. Android malware has grown smarter and more prevalent in the past year, Lookout found, and as a result, 7 percent of Android device owners in the United States encountered malware in 2014. That's a 75 percent increase from the 4-percent encounter rate of 2013.
