Owner Arte Moreno is likely to pin the blame for the Angels' poor play on the manager. But if Moreno fires him, the good news is Scioscia looks great in Dodger Blue. HOUSTON — I planned on joining the Angels in Chicago this weekend. View the full article

No matter what happens this coming off season (we could sign Cano, trade for Price, and hire Jesus to manage), none of us will expect the 2014 squad to be any good. I know I sure as shit won't be getting my hopes up for 2014.

I guess its not that easy being the yankees .....injuries to your SS, 1st base, CF, 3rd base, a monster contract weighing you down, an aging closer coming back from knee surgery and still you find a way to contend in the the east...... We angels tried the yankees approach of big money signing and flopped ....heck the yanks even stole vernon wells from us with the performance he's giving them now while we foot the lion's share of his contract! I think the whole angry Arte / rotating carousel of GM's / Scioscia incompetence fiasco should highlight what a difference a competent front office can do to an organization. The yankees just seem like a well run professional MLB…

In light of how the season looks right now - about a month and a half in -- with the Halos ten games out and some 10 games below .500 ball -- can the Angels marketing department stop running the teaser ad with the Angels have a built a 'team for the ages' tag? The ad seems to run shortly after another Halos loss and seeing it tonight after another loss to the Astros is just too much. It's time to play up the nice Anaheim evening weather, fun at the park, family time and stuff like that rather than the team (right now). Sad but true. If Angels somehow get swept by Houston does that mean the time clock is ticking on Scioscia's time here? I mean, we're supp…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - MAY 8, 2002 GAME 32 - TIGERS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM -- Troy Glaus could have kicked himself after fouling off a 3-2 pitch that was out of the strikezone. But the Angels' third baseman would atone for his mistake. On the very next pitch, Glaus hit a game-winning homer leading off the ninth inning that gave the Angels a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers before 14,722 at Edison Field. ''I was just trying to hit it out there, so maybe it falls in or maybe someone kicks it,'' Glaus said of the game-winner off Tigers reliever Fernando Rodney (0-2). About the only person who had a chance to kick the ball was Angels bullpen catch…

This is from his chat today: Comment From Nick: What should the Angels do in the immediate future to help their situation? What they’re doing now (overpaying declining superstars) obviously isn’t working out. Is there any benefit to just starting over and resetting the team (trading guys with reasonable/short contracts like Aybar, Kendrick, Vargas, Hanson, Bourjos)? Dave Cameron: How would trading the guys who provide value help anything? The problem with failing the way the Angels are failing is that there is nothing you can really do except wait. Hamilton and Pujols will start hitting better, but the commitments there are not ones you can be free of, so the …

I'll start. Arturo Moreno has decided to tank the Angels by getting the highest free agent acquisitions the last two off-seasons while atrophying the rest of the staff so that when attendance drops in Anaheim because the team continues to lose, he can cite the lack of attendance as a main reason when he announces a move north to Los Angeles. He can claim he tried to build a winner, but the Angels lacked the support from the Orange County market. ------ BTW, let's have some fun in this thread, please, and not resort to name calling or pointing out facts as inconsistent. This is supposed to be fun. Don't take it too serious. So, what Conspiracy Theories d…

Real quotes from after the game. "Norris was pounding the zone." "He pitched well against us out in California." "When we got some pitches to hit, I thought we did a good job of squaring them up." "The way that Joe pitched, the way that our bullpen came out and got some big outs, that's got to continue to game 162."

The Angels got another solid outing from Joe Blanton on Wednesday night, but they did almost nothing against a crazy-efficient Bud Norris and lost their second straight game to the last-place Astros, 3-1. View the full article

Albert Pujols understands that speculation that comes whenever a high-priced team with World Series aspirations struggles, but the Angels slugger said Wednesday that any talk about the job security of manager Mike Scioscia is completely without merit. View the full article

Sometimes you just run into a buzz saw. The way the ball was comin' out of Norris's hand, there was just not much we could do. He kept our guys off balance all night. Guys started making adjustments as the game went on, but it is just one of those games that you just gotta tip your cap to the pitcher and move forward. Epsy is gonna be goin' over some tape and workin' on some swings with guys to get them to where they need to be. We started to pressure the kid, but he just made the adjustments a tad faster than we did. We'll get this thing goin' and it will be a beautiful thing to watch. Right now a couple of guys are pressin' a bit, but these guys are professionals - they…

This is getting ugly. I am not really saying this is Scioscia's fault. Some pretty bad/slow baserunners on this team but the double plays are out of control.

I wanted to start a discussion centered around Hamilton, his previous Alcohol issues, and how this dynamic might affect team chemistry. For example, after a game, a bunch of the guys might want to go out and grab a beer and blow off some steam. I'm sure this happens fairly often on MLB teams. If I were part of that team it would make me uncomfortable to drink alcohol around Hamilton. I would choose not to drink around him as a show of support. Does anyone know how this was handled in Texas? I know when they won various playoffs and divisions they would not have alcohol as part of the celebration. I'm not trying to make any relationship between Hamilton's slump or the …

EOB9 and I were discussing Iannetta as a defensive catcher last night. I just wanted to put these stats out there to support that I believe Iannetta is an average-below average defensive catcher. Catchers being compared had over 600 innings caught over the course of last season and the beginning of this season. Iannetta has caught 839 innings while with the Angels over this period. There were 37 catchers that met the criteria. Stats were compiled using Fan Graphs at this link: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=600&type=1&season=2013&month=0&season1=2012&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&pl…

Another 0-4 with 2 K's. He's now hitting .202 and he's not showing any signs of improving. I think he needs to allow the Angels to ship him down to AAA to work on things.

It's feast or famine with that team assembled on the field right now, a lot of power but striking out. Trumbo's stock is considerably up, yet he SO's a lot himself. If this team is to keep Scioscia, then they would have to shake off the top, while Trumbo is presently that most valuable chip for them to leverage upon. Otherwise, if the Angels are dump Scioscia, then the feast or famine dilemma persists, and that spells inconsistency as we're seeing now. They found the Padres a trading partner last year and they might, as well, find them again this year. They need a guy who can hit for avg, hardly striking out, in order for the team to make it more difficult on…

"We’re giving 100-percent effort, and that’s all we can do. We could try to be more studious, maybe sacrifice a live goat or chicken, maybe get a pin-cushion out or something. We’re losing a lot of one-run games, but the pitching staff is getting supported by the offense, the offense is scoring enough runs. Sometimes it’s the big inning. Sometimes it’s a lot of little things. http://aldengonzalez.mlblogs.com/2013/05/07/the-other-11-21-angels/

Going into the season we knew our pitching was shaky and we couldn't afford any injuries. We knew that there was no way Weaver could go down and we could stay competetive, we knew CJ Wilson couldn't pitch the way he is pitching, we knew Blanton couldn't totally suck, and we knew we couldn't have Tommy Hanson throwing 87-88 mph fastballs. On the offensive side we thought we had a powerhouse, every big name in our line up has failed miserably except Trumbo and Bourjos, we are supposed to have 3 of the best players in the game in Pujols, Hamilton and Trout and they all have let us down. We all knew we had issues in our bullpen and didnt have the depth to recover from injurie…

just speaking hypothetically . . . let's say Pujols continues to be ravaged by injuries for the next 2-3 years and basically falls apart. Now let's say he's true to his word and walks away from the game - are the Angels off the hook if he retires before his contract is up?
