Okay, CJ has lost it

Recommended Posts

I cannot stand the argument that it wasn't CJ's fault he gave up 6 runs. While Conger's BS extended the inning, CJ could have gotten Carter out and that would have been the end of it. Instead he gave up a homerun.

Errors are a normal part of the game. Pitchers are going to have to get extra outs and throw more pitches because of them. Hence why runs that result because of the error are "unearned". If an error is the direct cause of the runs, such as a booted ground ball with the bases loaded, then I can see this argument having some merit. CJ still had the control of those 3 runs, and he served up a gopher ball. This is akin to people blaming Doug Eddings for that loss in the 2005 ALCS. It was a bad call, but had Kelvim Escobar not thrown an 0-2 meatball to the next batter, the call wouldn't have mattered.

So yes, with all things considered CJ pitched better than his line shows. But lets not completely absolve him of blame because of Conger. He still had to get one more out with the game tied, and he failed to do so.

I'm laughing at the statement. So he gave up a home run. Those three runs were the only earned runs in the game. The rest was thanks to Conger, but let's conveniently forget that. Wilson has been good for us this year.

Actually, those WEREN'T earned runs, technically. The sacrifice early in the inning would have been out #1, the two Ks that preceded the HR would have been outs 2 and 3.

The run in the first and the first run in the third were the only earned runs.

But yeah, he didn't help himself by serving up the gopher ball to Carter.

And why does anybody throw a fastball to Carter any more?

I'd like to see CJ go a start where he doesn't go through his 5 day preparation of film study and looking at the numbers. Just go out there and pitch. Trust your stuff and get throw strikes. Sometimes you can over prepare.

He had no problem throwing strikes last night.

It's one strike in particular, to Carter, that sucked.

Conger won't ever want to remember this one, costing the team 5 unearned runs.

Young man, you aren't so young anymore.

It's best that you learn a lot from this game.

CJ only made two bad pitches, and for a change didn't walk a lot of batters.

It will be interesting to see how Sosh handles Conger after having such a bad game.  If he sends him down, it won't be good for Conger or anyone else and will likely put more pressure on this team.

Fact: This year, CJ Wilson has the highest K/9 rate in his career as a starter.

If he starts throwing more strikes overall, watch out.

Fact: This year, CJ Wilson has the highest H/9 rate, HR/9 rate, and BB/9 in his career as a starter.

It sounds like he's not throwing as well as some people are implying.

The way MLB tallies unearned runs needs to be changed.  CJ gave up 7 runs, but only 2 were earned, which is pathetic on CJ's part -- he needs to be able to pitch under pressure when his teammates fail to do their part.

All three runs from Carter's HR came from base hits allowed by CJ.  Paredes reached on a double.  Altuve reached on a single.  Then Carter hit the homerun.  Just because errors were committed earlier in the inning should not prevent CJ from being charged for those runs.

LOL When you want to change the way MLB records stats to prove your point you should realize you are on thin ice. CJ pitched at minimun a good game, realistically a great game considering Conger going little league on us. CJ has been our best SP. CJ is not the problem on this team.
