The Angels' catcher entered play Thursday without a hit in 21 straight at-bats, dropping his average to .198. 'I've been getting myself out a lot, swinging at a lot of pitches I shouldn't be swinging at,' he says. View the full article

Many of you know that my father is @Angel25fan (AKA Brian Ilten, Director of Marketing for Angelswin.com)... Now, you all know that being born into a family where Brian Ilten is the father meant that I was either going to be an Angels fan, or put up for adoption. I have been an Angels fan since 1994... the day I was born, 2 weeks into my life I was at a game... that's the way it was... When MLB Network launched on January 1st, 2009, I remember sitting around the television with my father and brothers and we watched the first edition of "Hot Stove"... since then, I have not been able to avoid punching in 2-1-3 whenever I get the remote. Whether the Angels were playing, or…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - MAY 9, 2002 GAME 33 - TIGERS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM -- The Angels spent most of April digging themselves a hole. And while there are those who believed they might have been buried as well, the Angels instead started climbing their way out of it. They beat the Detroit Tigers, 7-6, Thursday night before 15,003 at Edison Field, going over .500 (17-16) for the first time since April 7 when they were 3-2. They also climbed over the Oakland A's and into second place in the American League West. The Angels didn't make things easy on themselves, falling behind 4-0 before rallying to go up, 7-4. The Tigers cut the deficit to 7-6 b…

One of few bright spots amid the Angels' slow start has been, once again, Mark Trumbo, who's not only producing his usual power numbers, but he's even drawing a lot more walks. View the full article

I saw a story on CBSSports regarding pitchers that may become available in trade. Cliff Lee was on the list. Got me thinking. Weaver should be back soon. CJ Wilson is a solid #2 or #3. Vargas has been pretty good as a #3 or #4. If Philly decides to rebuild now that Halladay is f'ed and made Lee available to get rid of his salary, would you want the Halos to get him (or at least make an offer)?. Now, keep in mind that not every team will be willing to take on his $25 mil per, and I would think that part of the benefit of trading Lee is getting out of his contract, so maybe the minor league compensation wouldn't have to be sterling. Thoughts?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Scotty Allen wrote an interesting piece here. While I enjoyed the article, Scotty, and agree with some of what you say, I think you over-state some things in order to (apparently) apologize for Jerry Dipoto. For example, you wrote: The best way I can explain the Dipoto regime and his moves is that this man has his eye on the future. He's more of a long term architect than GM who is looking for answers in the short term. The signing of C.J. Wilson, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton strikes me as the sort of moves designed to stabilize a team in the short term while Dipoto essentially builds an organization from the ground u…

I don't know how things will turn out. I'm likely a sucker hoping certain performances can turn around while others simply can't. So yeah, I'm going with #3. EDIT: Forgot to add - in talking with a friend, question came up if my choice would change if the team was guaranteed to spend the remaining resources? Hmm, well then Pujols seems the better choice honestly but with Scioscia at the helm for the next 5, I'm not sure any rotation help would matter.

Does anyone else think that expanding the replay system will ruin baseball. I'm fine with homeruns being reviewed but if they go any farther such as fair and foul ball, plays at the plate, and on the bases it will kill baseball. Human error is apart of the game that's what makes it great. We're not Football either.

I hate losing. I'm as frustrated as anyone and yet I haven't missed going to a home game yet this season. I've been reading all the rants and quite frankly - I just want to know who's still in this thing. I know you're out there. I know that even though you're frustrated, you're not going anywhere and I'd just like to see you stand up and be counted in this thread. This isn't life or death stuff... it's baseball, but if you love baseball like I love baseball, then you probably want a place where you can rally around others. This thread is it. I know (boy do I know) - there will be many who will try to rain on this parade - but that's ok. If you're like m…

We aren't making the playoffs. As such we should be shooting for a top draft pick. Firing Scioscia does nothing to help this organization restock our farm system by achieving a top draft pick.

I'd say this is make or break time against horrid teams. Gammons: "OK, the Angels are beginning stretch of 29 games, 22 vs. teams under .500, and they lose the first 2 . The June 1 landscape? Interesting"

So Mike's now citing last year as successful and evidence of what can happen after a slow start, as if barely missing the playoffs was some sort of accomplishment that we should look forward to this year if we're lucky? http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/angels/la-sp-simers-angels-20130509,1,891049.column

Just as a curiosity, I went back over the Angels records since inception to see where the Angels would have stood had the current league structure and playoff structure would have been in place then. What I found was rather staggering to me. The Angels would have made the playoffs 5 times in the 60's (62, 64, 65, 66, and 67), twice in the 70's (78 and 79), 5 times in the 80's (82, 84, 85, 86, and a wildcard berth in 89), only once in the 90's with a wildcard berth in 90, and then 6 playoff appearances in the 00's. Not that it matters, it was just something that I found, shall we say, interesting. I also noticed a pattern that the even decades were successful …
