There's quite a lot that goes into this question. Everyone's simple answer is yes but is it really that easy? http://www.monkeywithahalo.com/2013-articles/july/a-complete-look-at-miguel-alfredo-gonzalez-and-the-angels.html

I know, I know - two things make this thread nothing more than an idle thought experiment - that hindsight is 20-20 and you never know how these players would have performed if they had stayed with the Angels. But for the sake of some fun, let's dial back to November last year and make a few changes. Just a note: I'm NOT saying what should or should not have happened, just looking at a different path the Angels could have taken. 1) The Angels keep Ervin Santana 2) The Angels keep Torii Hunter 3) The Angels sign Zack Greinke 4) The Angels don't sign Joe Blanton 5) The Angels don't trade Walden for Hanson That gives them a rotation of Weaver, Greinke, Wilson, Sa…

They can put Conger at the DH and get a key piece or more for Trumbo or part of a package with Trumbo. It might also give Conger the chance to prove himself with the glove somewhere, still. They need another starting pitching with the Blanton investment souring and I've been saying all along that they need a catcher (aimed toward the Molina type) because that part has led to their demise since Benjie left. Conger and Ianetta have been killing them behind the plate and they need to position themselves better there. It's long overdue. So, trump Trumbo and perhaps Garrett Richards toward it.

This article makes me feel slightly nauseous. Sullivan thinks the Royals could get at least as much as the Garza trade. So what bothers me is what is wrong with the Angels that Santana couldn't find his best self? Is it Butcher? Scioscia? "Change of scenery" and going from a medium to low-pressure situation probably helps, but there's more to it. Santana is having his best season since his career year in 2008, certainly as good or better than 2011. I'm hoping that the Angels FO is looking at Santana and asking, "What did we do wrong? What didn't we do?"

Take this with a grain of salt. But I was talking to a friend today who's buddy is room mates with Trumbo and what I guess Trumbo had told his room mate is that what he knows right now is that he and Downs are on the trading block. Figured I would pass this along. I would be sad if Trumbo left because he is the type of guy we should keep around, but in the same respect I think this team needs a complete over haul and the only guy I would not trade would be Trout everyone else could be had for prospects imo.

I just have no other way to explain how a fat dude can be having his best season at 40 years old. And, with Jerome going tonight, I would be pretty comfortable betting $10,000 against the Halos

So there are 7 games left until the trade deadline and the Angels play the Athletics and Texas for all 7. It is do or die time - this is basically the most interesting and important week of the year for the Angels. Anyhow, it struck me that Dipoto might have a "magic number" for how many games the Angels need to lose before he sells. Obviously chances of making the postseason are rather slim right now, but if they win six or seven of the next seven games he will be very tempted to keep all the pieces and hope for the best. So hypothetically speaking, if he has a "magic number" in terms of losses, what do you think it is? 2? 3? The point being, over the next se…

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/yankees-close-to-acquiring-alfonso-soriano-1.html It is 2013 and it is sounding like the New York Yankees will have both Vernon Wells and Alfonso Soriano on their roster. Would not have guessed that.

Interview conducted by Rick Dykhuizen, AngelsWin.com Contributor Those following the Angels organization know that the Angels have been woefully short on pitching. So, with the June, 2013 draft, the Angels went heavily after pitchers, especially in the early rounds. In particular, they went after hard throwing guys with upside. One of those players who fit that mold was Harrison Cooney. Taken in the 6th round, Harrison has a mid-90s fastball that he can dial up out of the pen. So far, that's where the Angels have been playing him, and that's a good thing. With the need for bullpen arms in Anaheim, hopefully Angels fans will be seeing Cooney soon! Click here to watch…

It had been a long 10 days for reliever J.C. Gutierrez, from the time the Royals cut him on July 14 until the Angels finally claimed him off waivers on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Halos guaranteed him a spot in their upstart bullpen, designating right-hander Billy Buckner for assignment. View the full article

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - JULY 26, 2002 GAME 101 - ANGELS AT MARINERS SEATTLE – The Angels have spent all season chasing the Seattle Mariners, and in a series opener before 45,559 at Safeco Field, they caught them. Rookie starter John Lackey threw eight scoreless innings, scattering six hits, and eight different Angels had at least one hit in the Angels’ 8-0 victory, tying the Angels with the Mariners for first place in the A.L. West . Tim Salmon hit his 16th home run of the season, one of four Angels – along with Garret Anderson, Troy Glaus and Brad Fullmer – with two hits. Scott Spiezio had just one hit but drove in three runs. Lac…

Albert Pujols has three of the Angels' 12 hits, and the team mounts a seven-run outburst in the fifth and sixth innings to back a strong effort by C.J. Wilson. OAKLAND — The Angels scored as many runs in the fifth and sixth innings against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night as they did in their previous four games combined. They had more hits with runners in scoring position (six) in the game than they totaled in their previous eight games (five). View the full article

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - JULY 23, 2002 GAME 98 - A’S AT ANGELS ANAHEIM -- Fresh off their three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners, the Angels had little time to breath to get ready for the Oakland A's who reminded the Angels there is more than one team to beat in the American League West. In one of the best-played games by both teams all season, the A's held off the Angels for a 2-1 win before 25,370 at Edison Field. The result created a three-way tie for the top spot in the wild-card race between the Angels, A's and Boston Red Sox. The Angels and A's trail the Mariners, who won Tuesday, by two games in the West. ``They're right there,'' A…

Among many reasons the Angels have struggled is that more than two-thirds of their home runs are hit with the bases empty. Their 100 double-play grounders don't help. View the full article

Matt Klaasen released his latest update to the catcher defense ratings and, once again, Chris Iannetta rates next to last. What is more intriguing though is that Conger has jumped up to 41st (middle of the pack) when he was only a few spots ahead of Iannetta previously. And these ratings don't even take into account framing, where we know that Conger outclasses Iannetta by a mile. I still like the idea of them platooning because of the offensive contributions they both bring and because of Conger's durability issues, but if the defensive gap keeps widening, that is going to be harder and harder to justify.

I realize this isn't the minor league forum, but I thought I'd update everyone on how the teams in the Angels farm system are doing. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, since we are supposed to have the worst farm system! AAA- Salt Lake sits in FIRST place at 58-46, 1 game up in a tough division in the PCL. AA- Arkansas sits in FIRST place at 51-49, 2 games up in the Texas League North Division. High A- Inland Empire sits in SECOND place at 55-48, 5 games back in the California League South. A- Burlington sits in seventh of eight at 38-57, 21.5 games back in the Mid West League, but really with out any of our top prospects. Just thought I'd show …

So I get in my car after work excited the Halos game is still on and then I hear the score. They are a really bad team and I got to thinking. Is there any incentive for Trout to sign long term with the team? Does he want to break his back from carrying dead weight? The team is boring unless Weaver is pitching and is there really any help coming. What do you think?

By Scott Stedman, AngelsWin.com Minor League Reporter - 1. Jose Rondon, SS, Orem Owlz Past 10 Games: 20/44 (.455), 4 Doubles, 0 Triples, 0 HRs, 6 Runs, 10 RBIs, 5 SBs Overall: .351/.419/.459 with 0 HRs and 5 SBs What’s Up: Jose Rondon is certainly making a name for himself in the Angels' system after surprising many with his terrific play in the Pioneer League. Seventh in the league in hitting, Rondon also shows his skills defensively, with just two errors this season. His range at shortstop is already plus and there is no reason for him to move off the position. He has 15 walks and just 14 strikeouts. Keep in mind, he is doing all of this at age 19. Althoug…

I interviewed Bronson Arroyo from the Reds yesterday for my rock news website AlternativeNation.net. We talked a lot about Pearl Jam, Bronson was very cool. No real ego or anything, cool laid back guy with a sense of humor. In case there's anybody who happens to be into Pearl Jam on here, here's the interview. If not, please ignore and move along! Some fun stuff about Sean Casey and Theo Epstein in there. http://www.alternativenation.net/?p=29856 Would love to interview Trumbo, who is a rock enthusiast as well!

The Perfect Catch: Angels' Trout turning everybody into believers Reading the other piece, made me do some research. This was actually posted on the Original AW.com forum by Poozy. Didn't get much notice back then. http://angelswin.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=65882 But it's is a great writeup on what happened in the draft, written in 2012. There is some great insight on who Mike Trout is, why he was picked by the Angels, and why he was picked behind Grichuk.
