GAME 101 - ANGELS AT MARINERS

SEATTLE – The Angels have spent all season chasing the Seattle Mariners, and in a series opener before 45,559 at Safeco Field, they caught them.

Rookie starter John Lackey threw eight scoreless innings, scattering six hits, and eight different Angels had at least one hit in the Angels’ 8-0 victory, tying the Angels with the Mariners for first place in the A.L. West .

Tim Salmon hit his 16th home run of the season, one of four Angels – along with Garret Anderson, Troy Glaus and Brad Fullmer – with two hits. Scott Spiezio had just one hit but drove in three runs.

Lackey struck out five and walked one, improving to 2-1 since joining the big league club from triple-A.

The Angels jumped on Mariners starter James Baldwin for three runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a commanding lead.
