To move on from the worse possible opening series this team could have went through & fan base. Astros were a thorn in our a$$ last season so hopefully we can exercise some early demons? I'm still scared of Chris Carter he absolutely owns the angels. Here's to putting on the positive pants. It either gets worse or a little better. At worse we have to at least split this 4 game set. 1-18 with RISP that just has to get better...right? I have some liquor in the house in case $hit hits the fan this weekend lol...

In many ways, defense was the Angels' biggest issue last year, an area that saw the Angels inexplicably go from one of the best to one of the worst in six baseball months. Now the Angels and general manager Jerry Dipoto are using an analytical team to decipher data and help better position the club defensively. View the full article

A little test I put together: 1. Which two of the following players did NOT hit four home runs in a single game? Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Gil Hodges, Willie Mays, Mike Schmidt, Josh Hamilton 2. Which three of these pitchers tossed no-hitters in both the AL and the NL? Gaylord Perry, Jim Bunning, Roy Halladay, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Hideo Nomo 3. There are five members of the Hall of Fame who at one time were Angels' broadcasters. Name three of them. 4. True or False: Babe Ruth struck out four times in a game at least once. 5. True or False: Ted Williams struck out three times in a game on only s…

I met Rob Goldman at the Angels Win Fanfest in Arizona, but I didn't pick up his new book, Nolan Ryan: The Making of a Pitcher. It looks like I'll be able to change that this weekend. He's doing a signing this weekend at the Barnes & Noble in Orange. I'm not sure if any of you live in the area, but I figured I'd let everyone know. According to the website, the event is on Saturday April, 5 at 1pm. I also called the store to see if they'll have his other book, Once They Were Angels, and they will. I've read that book and it's a fantastic read. Here's a link with more information http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/event/4681943

Dipoto, Scioscia or Arte need to turn tables, knock chairs over and bust some ass in the clubhouse after this game. Inexcusable to have played the way they have the past three games. The focus the entire spring was to get off to a good start. This is anything but. If we're cursed, sacrifice a chicken or burn a picture of Tony Reagins. So far.... Salas has just a fastball and it's straight as an arrow. Jepsen sucks, Kohn is right behind. Call up Berg and Lyon, STAT. Send Salas back to the Cardinals for a box of Peter Bourjos trading cards. I'm officially ticked off at this team and their performances. I understand that the M's pitche…

Mike DiGiovanna in today's L.A. Times, in response to Hamilton: Josh Hamilton nearly scolded a reporter for asking if, in light of the Angels' brutal Aprils of 2012 and 2013, there was concern that a "here-we-go-again" mentality could creep into the clubhouse with another sluggish start. "We haven't thought about that, so stop thinking about it," the Angels left fielder said. "Talk to me in a like a week and a half. Guys are getting their feel, getting settled in, not only here but at home. We'll be good." Getting their feel? Getting settled in? If the Angels needed time to acclimate to the regular season, just what was that little six-week exercise in Arizona known …

Alden Gonzalez tweeted: Was Hector Santiago surprised to be taken out after 83 pitches? "Definitely. ... I don't wanna say upset, but I was definitely shocked." Scioscia said his upper back was starting to tighten up, but Santiago said it bothered him in the fifth and went away by the 6th. #Angels Note: If you want to move this to the postgame thread that's fine, but I wasn't sure if quotes from players should be separate, because otherwise I'm not sure what we can post threads on after a game.

Getting swept at home - regardless of the time of year - is never a good sign... It's even worse when it comes at the hands of a divisional opponent... Worse yet, when the opponent should finish behind you in the standings... But the scariest thought - up next: Houston...

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mike-trout-when-its-all-said-and-done/ If you have the time to read this, you should check it out. Tony Blengino is very good and basically said that Trout isn't even close to hitting his power potential based on some of his underlying numbers.

Wish the opening series was longer. After Felix, their pitching staff is very thin. Releasing Scott Baker makes Randy Wolf their #4 starter with a 5.65 ERA in 26 games started in 2012. James Paxton has 4 games started in 2013 with a 3.18 ERA this spring. Erasmo Ramirez with a 0.96 Spring ERA has only 21 MLB starts. Roenis Elias at 2.04 ERA this spring has no MLB starts and pitched in AA last year. At least their arms beyond Felix and Wolf are young but this seems to be a lot of pressure on some very unproven and in Wolf's case suspect arms.

So for those of us unable to make games early this season, I'm dying to know. Is Buttercup still being played? And if not, what took its place? It didn't look good for Buttercup at Fanfest... sounded like the Powers That Be were getting the message!

Seattle's James Paxton keeps Angels scoreless through seven innings as Angels' pitching surrenders more home runs. KEY MOMENT: The Angels put the first two runners on base in the first inning when Kole Calhoun doubled to right field and Mike Trout walked. But Albert Pujols grounded into a double play and David Freese lined out to center field, killing the rally and setting the tone for a frustrating evening. The Angels scored twice in the ninth on Trout's run-scoring triple and Freese's sacrifice fly. View the full article

Seattle has 13 hits, including three home runs, and cruises in final game of three-game set. It's the first time since 1992 that the Angels are swept to open a season. The Angels managed only two hits off Mariners starter James Paxton, who dominated the game for seven innings, striking out nine and retiring the last 11 batters he faced. Meanwhile, Angels pitchers allowed eight runs on 13 hits for a combined three game series ERA of 9.64 and a .309 opposing batting average. Click here to download the scorecard. Will anyone be sacrificed After what's gone on the last few April's I think some kind of action is needed. If not then the organization culture has changed. They're saying it's ok to lose imo. It's the way they've been losing is the worst part.

I know its been probably said around here but hear me out. Trout came up two years ago and set the world on fire. Batted lead off and sparked the Angels to barely just missing the playoffs with his speed on the base paths, hitting home runs, driving in runs, but causing chaos for the opposing pitchers and catchers. Then year two bats around 1-3 but mostly 2nd and some 3rd in the line up he does tons of damage at the plate but doesn't do nearly as much damage on the base paths because he has Pujols/Hamilton/Trumbo hitting behind him so he doesn't get the green light as much. To me Trout reminds me of Ricky Henderson, a true lead off guy with awesome power, awesome speed an…

if you had any hope going into the season that this year would be better than last year, then you can't get too discouraged after 2 games. To say that last night was just game 164 - and I do sympathize that line of thinking - is to have zero hope for 2014. It may well be the case, but it's too depressing to think of this already as another wasted season. Maybe it's putting blinders on somewhat, but for at least the next few weeks, I'm going to hold out hope that this year can still be different.
