So in retrospect the Angels paid (or will pay) Vernon Wells a total of $71 million. The original four years remaining was abou $89 million, minus $5 million that Toronto paid = $84 million. The Yankees pay $13 million of his remaining contract which brings us to $71 million. This is what the Angels got for $71 million: 208 games, .222/.258/.409, 36 HR, 95 RBI, -0.3 rWAR Could that be the worst large sum ever spent in big league history?

Over at TOC, I had a fun time trying to convince folks this wasn't particularly a bad deal for either side. http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/2013-articles/march/the-beauty-of-the-vernon-wells-trade.html

The clear beneficiary of Vernon Wells' departure to the Yankees -- a deal that is still not done but appears headed in that direction -- is Peter Bourjos. Now, it seems Bourjos has some breathing room -- though he doesn't see it that way. View the full article

My morning drive got a whole lot better with Travis Rogers in the moring drive slot on KLAA. I Enjoyed listening to him on the evening drive home and now we get him in the mornings. I like him much better than his replacement.

Time to see who is in: Chuck likes CBS so we are going to get it for those who want to be in a money league similiar to our football league. For those not as serious we will set up a free yahoo likely for everyone else and have some prizes. We had been trying keepers over the years but the interest dwindles. Will be a live draft in all leagues, however and give your opinions if you want to do a keeper. I say we just re-draft every year. I will be setting up the leagues here in next couple days after seeing who is interested. There will also be a home run derby like our yearly NFL picks contest and will post that info at same time as league info. …

I hope this kid makes the team out of ST. He has good stuff and has been the bright spot this spring out of the bullpen.

Are we going to have them again? My biggest offseason priority was to fix the pen. I liked the Burnett and Madson moves yet I was still hopeful of adding one more proven guy to the mix. After that didn't happen, I had hopes that Cordero, Sisk, Cabrera, Maronde etc. could end up earning a spot. Not so much Even the expected guys haven't impressed. Frieri looks like he still struggling with a second pitch. Downs looks closer to his second half collapse than his first half dominance Jepsen is still hard to trust Burnett looked good once and horrible otherwise. Williams has looked awful. Richards and Carpenter have turned some heads but Richards shou…

Think about how much patience he has shown before executing this trade. At several points last season he could have released Vernon altogether and no one would have faulted him. At last year's trade deadline he easily could have executed a trade and received back maybe $1M-$2M and many here would have said hallelujah. This spring he has massaged Wells' ego, saying he "couldn't have handled this more professionally," and somehow he has coaxed an almost-certainly inflated batting performance out of Wells against second-tier pitching. Dipoto is now trading Wells at his high water mark value-wise, somehow getting $13M back, when the Yankees' backs are against the wall and…

http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mil/ticketing/advance.jsp It's a mini plan where with each Brewers win, your seats get upgraded. It's a fun way to get fans more into the game, and I'd love the Angels to try something like this.

There's a highly competitive league forming featuring the top Angels bloggers around. We have three people representing LA Angels Insider, three representing Monkeywithahalo, two representing Halos Hangout, two representing Harnessthehalo and two more representing Halos Daily. However, we can't have a Battle of the Blogs without Angelswin. So far, Brian Waller is representing Angelswin and having been in a Fantasy League with him before, I can vouch he's formidable, but we still have one or two more slots open for Angelswin representatives. If you are a regular AW poster and want to represent them in the Battle of the Blogs, let me know. The cost if FREE and t…

Right-hander gives up three hits over 6 1/3 innings in Angels' 5-1 victory over Milwaukee, making a serious push to be on a staff that has a 7.26 earned-run average this spring. TEMPE, Ariz. — One day after Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said he was "concerned" about his rotation's shoddy work, right-hander Garrett Richards delivered the team's best start of the spring Saturday, one that will probably thrust the right-hander into a role on the big league club.
