By Ellen Bell - AngelsWin.com Staff Writer Spring Training is a time of renewal and recommitment to your team. It’s the one time of the year when all baseball fans have the luxury of believing that this could be their year. In those precious, optimistic weeks of March, before a single pitch has been thrown on Opening Day, anything is possible. That’s exactly why I buy my ticket to AngelsWin.com's Fanfest each year. It’s not only a chance to reconnect and share baseball optimism with online fan friends. It’s also a weekend of events and experiences that remind me of why I became a Angels fan in the first place. At the 8th annual Fanfest Dinner on Saturday ni…

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Barry Zito was reportedly scammed out of $3 million by a company called dotFIT, started by Zito's friend Michael Clark. Zito invested $3 million into the company, which also counts Madonna and Dr. Oz as investors. He thought he'd be getting a 15 percent stake in the company for his investment, but instead, his money was put toward paying off outstanding debts the company had. Read More... How do you sum up an evening with Mr. Angel? As the first ofour guest speakers, Tim Salmon got the party rolling at the 2013 AngelsWin.comSpring Training Fanfest as our first of many guests in the evening. The AngelsWin.com Board of Directors started off the talkwith a few questions that they had prepared for the Kingfish. Emceed by ChuckRichter, the founder of AngelsWin.com, he asked how Tim's relationship withMike Scioscia has evolved from being a player on the team to an analyst in thebroadcast booth. In one of the most interesting and challenging questions, Chuck asked him which outfield was the best onein which he played; Anderson/Edmonds/Salmon or Anderson/Ersta…

Living in Michigan, I haven't seen any of the spring training games, so I can just look at stats. Last spring, Trumbo batted .328 with 6 HR and 16 RBIs in 58 plate appearances and turned that into a great start to the season. He batted .304 in April with 3 HRs and a fantastic .367 with 7 HRs in May. So far this spring in 36 ABs he's batting .250 with 0 HRs 1 RBI, and only 1 extra base hit. How has he looked at the plate? Morales on the other hand for Seattle in 35 ABs is batting .367 with 3 HRs including one yesterday from the right side, with 6 RBIs. Here's hoping Trumbo finds a groove. I do hope that Morales does well, except of course against the Angels.

Personnel pensions on cutting blockMajor League Baseball owners, despite boasting $8 billion in annual revenue and climbing, are moving toward eliminating the pension plans of all personnel not wearing big league uniforms, sources told ESPNNewYork.com. The first attempt to do so, initiated last year by a small-market owner, never came to a vote after Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf chastised his brethren for being petty with the lives of ordinary people given the riches produced by the sport. A vote, which was intended to be kept secret, is now scheduled to take place at owners meetings May 8-9 in New York. A majority of owners now favor the abolition of t…

Let's face it, Dipoto made a huge mistake trading away Morales instead of Trumbo or Bourjos. Trumbo's plate discipline scares the shit out of me and Morales is now over a year removed from his first game back..he's going to smash. I called this being a horrible move right when it happened and it looks even worse now with Morales killing the ball in the Spring . We could have gotten someone better than Vargas if we traded Trumbo (who has club control years left). I just don't get it. If we're trying to win now...you might as well keep the better hitter, and I think Morales is obviously going to have a better offensive season than Trumbo this year.

In the race for the backup infield spot, Luis Rodriguez, Brenden Harris, and Andrew Romine are all hitting to around a .700 OPS. Jimenez is now hitting .314, with 6 BB and 6 K's, to go along with his .824 OPS. Tommy Field is not doing well. On a side note, Callaspo has started hitting, which I suppose is a good thing. Jimenez then has a much harder shot to make the team and is likely to start in AAA. In the race for the backup outfield spot, Matt Young is still killing the ball with a .500 average, .565 OBP, and a 1.250 OPS. Scott Cousins is still not hitting, and neither is Kole Calhoun. To me, the later into Spring we get, the more likely Young is going to get that…
