CHICAGO — The Angels are going to be without Luis Rengifo for at least a week. An MRI exam Friday morning showed just right wrist inflammation, so Rengifo was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday. Rengifo was hurt on a foul ball in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game. The injury costs the Angels a player who had been arguably their most productive player from the start of the season. Rengifo is also a valuable trade chip. It’s possible he could still be traded before the July 30 deadline, depending on how quickly he comes back from the injury. In the meantime, Rengifo’s injury opened the door for infielder Keston Hiura to return to the majors for…

CHICAGO — At least the Angels scored this time. The Angels snapped their 22-inning scoreless streak, but still came up short in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday. It was the Angels’ fifth straight loss, including back-to-back shutouts coming into the game at Wrigley Field. This one wasn’t quite as ugly as their performances against the A’s, because they were shut down by Cubs left-hander Justin Steele, who has been one of the better pitchers in the majors the past two seasons. Steele pitched a complete game. Also, the Angels hit a few balls hard, only to have the Cubs make spectacular plays. The Angels didn’t have a hit until the fifth, and they finished with j…

OAKLAND — The good feelings from the Angels’ six-game winning game streak are officially gone, eviscerated in three games against one of the few teams having a worse season. The Angels lost 5-0 to the Oakland A’s on Thursday, getting shut out for the second consecutive game and losing for the fourth straight game since their winning streak. While the Angels looked like they might be showing some signs of life last week – even if it was still too late for this season – they reverted to their disappointing form in Oakland. The Angels (36-50) were held to four hits Thursday, after being blanked in a 92-pitch complete game by Joey Estes on Wednesday. It was the first time …

Several years ago, I want to say "Patty" but I think it was a woman, who told a joke about Oakland here, in which it was likened to a warzone. I couldn't find it in Google. Does anyone here remember?

OAKLAND — Zach Neto slapped his hand into his glove and then put both hands over his head, with a look of exasperation. Another play that the Angels’ shortstop expected to make had eluded him, as a run scored in the sixth inning. Neto’s defense has been one of the shining spots for the Angels during this frustrating season, but it was a glaring issue in a 5-0 loss to the Oakland A’s on Wednesday night. The Angels also had to take Luis Rengifo out of the game with an apparent hand injury after he fouled a ball off in the ninth inning. It was all part of an overall lousy night for the Angels, whose offense came up empty against right-hander Joey Estes, who pitched a com…

OAKLAND — Nolan Schanuel’s performance on Tuesday night summed up all that’s going right for him these days. The Angels rookie first baseman swung at 10 of the 11 pitches that he saw in the strike zone. That included a two-run single to left field against a left-handed pitcher and pulling an RBI double into right-center on a 101 mph fastball from Oakland A’s closer Mason Miller. “Right now he’s not afraid of who’s out there throwing,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “He’s starting to feel himself, and that’s a good thing.” Schanuel agreed that he’s felt like a new player lately. “A lot more confident,” he said on Wednesday. “I figured something out with my swing a…

In order to contend in 2025 or 2026? While this team is on a bit of a hot streak and the hopium is flowing...winners of 5 of their last 6, and 3-3 the six games before that... Two caveats: 1) This is about contending in 2025 or 2026 only, no tear it down and trade everyone posts... and 2) Getting rid of Arte is what everyone would do, so you dont need to say it. Really just want to see who this fanbase wants to trade and what they expect to receive in return.

OAKLAND — José Soriano wasn’t able to pick up where he left off before a stint on the injured list. The Angels right-hander pitched his best game of the season in his last time out, but three weeks later he returned to the mound and saw one bad inning cost him in the Angels’ 7-5 loss to the Oakland A’s on Tuesday night. Soriano pitched his best game in the big leagues on June 12, going eight innings in a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. But the 25-year-old right-hander was scratched hours before his scheduled June 17 start because of an abdominal infection. When he returned to the mound, the Angels had him on a limit of 65 pitches because of the missed time. Base…

Who is your pick for the first half MVP? O'Hoppe and Rengifo have come on strong this month, but looking at the whole first half, I think Anderson edges out Neto on my scorecard.

Victor Rojas and Geoff Stoddart had the week off so Chuck Richter had former guest of the show Breezy Nowlan on and AngelsWin.com Insider, Travis Painter who joined the podcast for the first time. In episode 39 the three discuss: The State of the 2024 Los Angeles Angels Why there's hope for a positive finish to the 2024 campaign that would increase fan enthusiasm about the club heading into offseason and into 2025. Angels players that might be dealt at the deadline and which teams are interested in the likes of Tyler Anderson, Taylor Ward, Carlos Estevez and Luis Rengifo. Travis talks about some of the prospects names that have been floating aro…

ANAHEIM – As the baseball rebounded off the center field wall and toward an unoccupied spot on the outfield grass, a season-best win streak and an impressive run of defense trickled away with it. The Detroit Tigers’ Justyn-Henry Malloy delivered a two-run inside-the-park home run in a 7-6 victory that ended the Angels’ six-game winning streak and their bid for a perfect homestand. It would have been the Angels’ first sweep of a homestand lasting at least seven games since 2004. Even worse for the Angels was Taylor Ward getting hit in the ear flap of his helmet by a 93-mph fastball from right-hander Shelby Miller in the ninth inning. Ward left the game under his own powe…

I know, Master of the Obvious. But look at his 2024 stats compared to his career: There's literally no improvement. There was hope early on as he had a good April, but has been absolute trash since - and his overall numbers are right in line with the rest of his career. Maybe its not fair to pick on Adell, but he pretty much exemplifies what is wrong with this org: A toolsy player drafted #10 overall (their highest pick in 17 years), who was totally mishandled developmentally by the Angels. Given that the Angels are unlikely to compete for the next few years, there's not a lot of harm in continuing to play him in the off chance that he figures somethi…

Too bad they didn't IL Drury. He hasn't played since the 18th, so they've just wasted a roster spot for more than the length of an IL spot (yes, I know it's "just" a respiratory infection, blah blah). Still could have made a retroactive move after a few days. Reese Olson pitching for the Tigers.

ANAHEIM – Coming as close as he has so far to setting a timetable for a return, Angels outfielder Mike Trout said with confidence Saturday that he expects to be on the field at very least by this time next month. Trout has not played in a game since April 29 and underwent a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee May 3 with a general return estimate of three months. And while the three-time MVP has progressed to jogging and is generally pain free during workouts, he has yet to run at full speed. He hasn’t even started swinging a bat. Doing his best to avoid timetable questions Saturday, Trout was asked if it is reasonable to assume that he would be playing…

We should have done this when he got hurt for masochistic gits and shiggles, but it has "only" been five weeks so is never too late. When do you think Trout will be back? Vote, and include your exact prediction in-thread.

ANAHEIM — Zach Plesac only has to look down the Angels’ bench if he is looking for some inspiration on how to overcome adversity. Plesac struggled to find the strike zone, while Luis Rengifo continued to produce offensively and Logan O’Hoppe delivered the big blow in the Angels’ 5-2 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night that extended the club’s winning streak to a season-best five games. One day after Rengifo took the lead in the American League batting chase with a .312 average, he celebrated by lifting a two-run home run to left-center field in the first inning. It was his second home run in as many nights against Detroit. Rengifo also singled to start a…
