I would extend, but not for 4 years or more.  2, maybe an option on 3 at most.
While we do have infield depth, none of them are true SS.  
This club NEEDS a great defense behind its pitchers, that cant be overstated in my opinion.  He is the literal backbone of that along with Trout.   
He is without question still one of the top SS in the game, and isnt exactly shit at the plate.   People comparing to Ozzie are pretty close, but Simmons has a bit more pop.
I dont think any extension includes any kind of significant raise and his money at somewhere 15-20M isnt going to prevent the club from doing other things, at least it shouldnt.

Most of us feel this way.  The problem is the cost for front line starting pitching that is controllable is ridiculous and could cost us both of those guys.  At that point it is an overpay.  I say I would give up Adell for Buehler, it might cost both Adell and Marsh and then some.  That is how valuable they are on the trade market.  

The Angels haven’t had a legitimate 3B since Figgins. Rendon stabilizes  the position that the Angels have no legitimate prospect. The same is true for catcher.

MadBum is looking at 4/100mil. plus. That is hardly 3-4 money. Bum at over 100 million is way too risky given his three Straight years of decline. Ryu is also risky considering his long history of injuries. Keuchel is less of a gamble for a 3-5 and should be considerably less expensive. 
 
I think that Donaldson at four years is better than Rendon at seven. Signing Donaldson will create more payroll flexibility. Rendon would only be the right choice if his contract is backloaded the first two years until the Albatross is off the books.  In that case Rendon would be good.

That is for three games a week. I am concerned about the games where Ohtani sits and pitches. This goes back to my original premise.

I read that as Fletcher, Barria, Rengifo. I think its too soon to trade away Canning.  I'd be most reluctant to give up on trading fletcher but I think he brings the biggest return. I'd rather trade Simba and hand over short to Fletcher.

I think you are selling Ohtani short. His is going to be 17 months removed from TJ surgery, he should be throwing his whole arsenal when ST starts, hopefully fewer splitters and more curves. I also think that he has been here long enough to pitch every fifth game and not force the other starters to change their routines. Also, his bat is too vital to only DH 3 times a week. 
 
The Cole negotiations are going to last into next year so the Angels have to build the rest of the staff first. I agree with the signing of Maldonado.  I see Wheeler’s negotiations lasting into January also. Eppler has to decide to either sign 2 second tier starters or one and wait for Cole or go all out for Cole and risk having a chance to sign other quality starters. Cole is obviously the number one priority but they need more than Cole to be competitive with Houston and Oakland.

I'd be okay with a Marsh for Ruiz "swap."  I do not want to trade prospects for veteran players at this point, because I think we need all the prospects we can get to help absorb the future payroll obligations we will soon have, but a prospect-for-prospect trade, in which we trade from an area of surplus (OF) for an area of weakness (C) seems like a good utilization of prospect currency to me.

I wouldn’t extend him. I’d look to trade him. If the price is right that is. 

He already has 4/100. When he opts out he will get at least 5/150, especially with his dominance this Postseason. I love his stuff but not his injury history. I just know that if the Angels sign him he will end up on the IL within a month. Of course he will be a bargain compared to Cole.

Can any of you picture Upton playing left field in Fenway without laughing. The Red Sox are only trading for young controllable players, especially pitching. The thought of trading Upton for another bad contract is a good one but not with the Red Sox. 

I read that he was in rehab for the second time this year. So much for the no tolerance edict. 
 
This organization needs a purge in the front office starting with Carpino and maybe Eppler as well. Arte needs to act strongly and make a statement. I can’t feel sorry for Kay after admitting that he supplied and used opiods with Tyler and others for years. He needs to work on his life issues full time and try to extricate himself from his addictions.  

Fuck this asshole. He just gave $50 million to Tyler's mom by abetting. Money that Arte is going to have to pay because it wasn't some bagage handler. I hope his ass is jailed and nobody gives him a whiff of sympathy because he was an addict.
