Seriously though, yeah. If Gerrit Cole is going to cost 35 million a year across 7, and Strasburg costs 25 across 6, I think I'd take Strasburg.

Plus I'll always have a soft spot for him. I love San Diego State and he's the greatest college pitcher of all time.

I think Strasburg will want $30 million if he opts out. At that point it's not really a huge difference. I still take Cole.

Well, he's making 25 right now so you're probably right. But if for some reason he stayed at that salary and was looking for a couple more years then yeah.

He's not a FA for 4 more years. He's owed $100M over those 4 years. Who are you willing to trade for him?

he's going to opt out the same way justin upton did. he'll add more money and years to what is, essentially, his existing contract with the nationals.

Still think he’s likelier to opt-out next offseason, when he can be the clearcut #1 FA SP.

His annual salary also drops back to $15m in ‘21 - it’s still $25m in 2020.
