The Angels got Ohtani cheaply in his 20s. Someone is going to get him (extremely) expensively in his 30s.
If it's not the Angels, I will be just fine.

If you're old enough to remember when getting the newest issue of Sports Illustrated was a thrill, you might share my wistfulness at what it has become.

"Starting"
My friends who are Dodgers fans have been assuring me since Spring 2021 that Ohtani will be a Dodger this offseason.
-
For the second year in a row they are going to be eliminated by a team that finished double-digits behind the Dodgers in their own division. Last year the Padres were 22 back; this year the Diamondbacks were 16 back.
I enjoy watching the Dodgers lose in October, but I truly hate the MLB postseason format.

Both things can be true.

So it's no longer almost 100% that he will be back?

Enough losing for Mr. Trout send him home he deserves a winning team.
Nonsense. He deserves what the Angels are paying him - which is a lot - and nothing more.

Stepping on the toes of Rendon would result in... ah, never mind. Too easy.

Wouldn't be surprised if Trout asks to be traded also.
I would. He announced before the season "I'm going to do whatever I can to keep Shohei here" then proceeded to have his worst season and got injured, as he often has in the last 5 years.
Asking for a trade would be pathetic.

My name it's Patrick (known as PJ) to my brother Lou. My family and I have been following this since it was first posted and even created accounts. Most know by now that Lou passed peacefully in his sleep on August 8th at approximately 5pm while The Ocho was on TV (c'mon, you know he loved all sports even the weird ones, like Cricket). He constantly bragged about AngelsWin, all the fun times he had here and the trips to watch The Halos play, home and away with you guys. You all were his extended family and loved every minute he spent on here. To see him spend his last several days reading your posts and thoughts about him brought a smile (and tears) to his face, as it did his brothers and sister. All of us have also been keeping up with this post and you will never know how much we appreciate the love, memories, thoughts and especially the pictures you have shared. Our greatest memory with him was being in the front row at the left field foul pole for the Angels 2002 World Series win. All of us hugging and crying tears of joy at the site we thought we would never see. Close 2nd was Barry Bonds flipping us off during the game because Lou kept leading our entire section in a "sterrrroooooids!" chant while we were jamming a Thunderstick into our arms. Honor him by keeping his memory and stories alive. Celebrate his life. "LouDogg" was a smartass until the end and continued to make us laugh until his last breath.
Sincerely,
The Garcia Family
GO HALOS!
(I wanted to post this as a separate topic but I'm new to this and I stink at it. I'm sure Lou is calling me a "dumbass" right now )
Update: I think I figured it out but I'll leave this here just in case.
Thank you for posting this. My condolences for your loss.
It freaking sucks what your family is going through right now but I promise you one thing: As time goes by, the dominant emotion will shift from sadness to My God we were lucky to have that man in our life.
I would argue that Lou was not "an AngelsWin.com legend," but rather THE AngelsWin.com legend.

Remember in 2020 when they played without fans in the stands? Sure, it was still baseball, but it just wasn't the same.
That's what AW is like without @Lou. I will still read it and still enjoy many of your comments, but I will always feel like something major is missing.

Howie Kendrick.
9 seasons. 28.5 bWAR. 28.9 million dollars total salary.
And some people complained because he never hit .350 in Anaheim like he did in the minors.

Next year, need better starters and much better offense.
We will get better offense THIS season.
Not sure if it will be in time though.

It would be a feather in one's cap to be on the team when they get over the hump eventually.
Then San Diego makes more sense.

I’m probably going to not tune into this team and website much longer. 9 years and counting on waiting to make the playoffs is enough for me.
This website is far more enjoyable than this franchise.

I think one genuine ray of hope the angels have in terms of retaining him is that the Dodgers have shown an aversion to really long stupid contracts. Ohtani is going to get a really long and stupid contract. Arte will probably do that.
This made me way happier than it should. "The one ray of hope we have is that our favorite team is REALLY dumb!"
Maybe it's because I just read the latest comments in the thread about @Lou and I realize that none of this really matters. Or maybe it's just hard for me to care about the team like I used to. But your comment brought a smile to my face when it probably should not have.

His emergence made it possible for the Angels to release Pujols a few months early and I never again had to watch a GIDP where Albert hadn't even gotten halfway to first by the time the play was over.
If for no other reason, I will always like Walsh.

Then sign a new contract.
