This isn't last year - look at the standings. There are more really good teams.

I don't think enough people realize this. The Angels are not only third in the AL West, they behind FOUR teams in the AL East: Tampa, New York, Baltimore, and Toronto.

The Angels are better than they have been in years, but so are Texas and Baltimore, and that is making the path to the postseason more difficult than I expected it to be before the season began.

  2. I remember when I was a little kid asking my dad if a narrator read the opening to Law & Order every episode, because it always sounded exactly the same ("In the criminal justice system...) He explained to me that it was a recording and that's why it sounded exactly the same.

I wonder if Randazzo does the same thing with "Angels threaten but don't score." It feels like I've heard it 200 times this season and it always sounds the same.

May I remind everyone that Trout has a no-trade contract. He would have to waive that before anything could be done there.

He is also about to turn 32 and has 7 years and 260 million dollars owed him after this season.

If people want to give him away for salary relief, that is a valid opinion. I strongly disagree with it, but respect it.

But do people think the Angels will find someone to take on that contract AND give up a bunch of good prospects, too? What exactly is the goal of trading Trout? What should the Angels do with the money they save? Try to sign a player who will give them 4-7 WAR for the next few seasons? Someone as good as.... Mike Trout?

    Wow.

So forget the postseason this year?

I mean... I can't really give up on the season on June 3rd.

That being said, there are some years you can hover around .500 and hope to get hot and make a run. But this doesn't look like one of them.

I can certainly see the Angels ending the season with a better record than Boston or Seattle.

But that leaves Houston (or Texas, if Houston overtakes them), the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Orioles.

I do not see the Angels finishing with a better record than any of those four teams, let alone three of them.
