The last really exciting AND huge hit for us was Mathis's walk-off double in the 2009 ALCS against the Yankees.

I can't recall any other moment equal to that since then.

I certainly get your point... but I loved the 2014 and '15 seasons, even though both ended in disappointment. Trout's walkoffs on 4th of July 2014 or against the Red Sox in July 2015, or the aforementioned grand slam off Sale, or the rally against Rodney in 2014 with Trout and Pujols shooting mock arrows at each other... I still view those moments with lots of excitement. Because it felt like the team at least had a chance to do something those seasons. And I haven't felt that since.

I really like this year's team. It FEELS like it should have a lot better record than it does. And that sucks.

Full disclosure: I drank a bottle of wine while watching the game last night. This season is not actually depressing. Just disappointing... so far. There is still plenty of time.

I don't know if its more important to have a walkoff home run or to hit a game winning home run in the 9th. I believe Trout hit two (or one?) of the latter type, in the top of the 9th, up in Seattle last year. So Mike has it in him to hit important home runs. However, I would like it if he cut down on the strikeouts and put the ball in play during crucial at bats late in games. It just seems like he's squeezing saw dust out of the bat when he goes up there late with runners on base with the game on the line. Perhaps he can take a page out of Garret Anderson's book. Its like Garret was sleepwalking through all his at-bats yet he had the game winning hit in the 7th game of our only World Series win.

He has definitely had some big hits in the 9th - that home run against St. Louis a few weeks ago comes to mind. Hell, that leadoff single tonight could have been huge, but no one even moved him over.

My point was more that it has been a depressing last few years with this team and when I hear Gubi say that Trout's last walkoff was in 2015 - or hear him mention for the 500th time Trout's grand slam against Chris Sale, which will be nine years ago in a week - it makes me realize just how long it has been since I have felt true excitement being an Angels fan.

Very true. They just don’t play consistently enough to be that team… if it’s not the bullpen sucking, it’s the starting pitching, if it’s not that it’s the bats going to sleep, if it’s not the offense it’s bad defensive plays. This is just flat out not a very good team and it shows

everything is clicking for Texas. Everything has clicked for the angels like once over the past 15 years and that was in 2014

When Trout led off the 9th and Gubi said "His last walkoff was in 2015," it depressed me.

He hasn't had a walkoff home run in eight years

Maybe this is just going to be another season of hovering around .500, getting made fun of by the national media, and watching a dozen teams play in October while the Angels do not.

At least I'm used to it.

this team is annoying as fuck.

    Well said.

It's hard to get too excited about four-game win streaks knowing that they are capable of doing some of the dumbest shit imaginable at the drop of a hat.

(On the plus side, it's hard to get too disappointed with them anymore. I pretty much expect these kind of games now.)

    Deep Cover! Great flick!

As a kid, I was 100% certain I was going to be a cop. I thought it was all fun and games, like movie stars ride along with you (The Hard Way) or you go undercover and deal drugs (Deep Cover). I mean, sure, every once in a while you have to go barefoot and shoot a bunch of East Germans who take hostages in Nakatomi on Christmas Eve (Jingle All The Way - I think) but overall it looked like the most fun job in the world.

Then when I was about 10 my grandfather, who served 30 years in the LASD and retired as a captain, took me to breakfast and laid it out for me: "The first half of my career, all I did was write reports. The second half, all I did was go to meetings. I never went undercover. I only fired my weapon once; it was a warning shot and I got in trouble for doing it. You should become a lawyer like your dad."

I did not become a cop. (Or a lawyer.)

    Read this in Cholo.

When I was younger some gangsters from my school jumped another gangster from a rival gang on like the 2cd day of school (who was new to the school)

When they were rat packing the rival gangster (in front of everyone... no point doing it unless everyone sees it) they found out the rival wasn't actually a guy, but a chick, who was just super hard core and looked like a cholo (complete with shaved head)

One of the guys figured it out and was like "ay Foo, she's a hyna!"

(Which is why this line popped into my head)

    Fun fact.

Later that day the female came back with a shotgun and blasted one of them. Lucky is was bird shot or something similar.

Never saw her again, but I remember his gnarly scars, from all the pellets that got removed.

But yeah, I like Neto too.

That reminds me of the time my buddies and I broke into a cafe to hide from a rival gang and my buddy JD took a shotgun blast to the leg.

Wait... sorry, that was American Me

I like that you mention Simmons, he seemed to have the best situational awareness that I have seen. It looks like Neto has the same thing, always around the ball. I think he is , and I hate to use this term a "Natural".

Two or three times per season, Simba would do something that I had literally never seen before. It was such a thrill. I don't know if I'll ever have that with Neto, but I sure do like him so far.
