Frieri Meatball reacted to PattyD22 in Gameday Thread (5/19/23): Angels vs Twins - Moniak in CF for Trout
He has no one but himself to blame.  He walked Correa, who is hitting .201 this year, then pitched from behind the next 2 batters.  Both who had 2 strikes.  Finish the hitters Detmers.  I love him, but he threw 101 pitches in 5 2/3.  That’s not getting it done.

As a complete non-sequitur, nothing at all to do with the topic at all, whatsoever, not even in a tiny way, here is a stock chart of a random company from the last 1.5 years.

Frieri Meatball reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Angels have started pre-screening requests from reporters to talk to coaches to see if questions are too negative
My 2 cents: the policy is pointless and counterproductive. It does not help the organization in any way, because the same stories are going to be written anyway. (I asked to talk to Wise for my José Suarez story over the weekend and was told no.)
It can hurt the organization because when it gets publicized some small percentage of fans are going to be upset about it and it will cast a more negative light on the organization than what they were trying to prevent in the first place
But the bottom line is the readers end up losing out on a very small bit of information that they would have gotten and the vast majority of readers don’t care. So I’d prefer to keep it as a private fight between me and the Angels and not make it a public one.

Frieri Meatball reacted to Swordsman78 in Passan: Shohei Ohtani Could Be Traded, 'Will Definitely' Leave Angels If LA Struggles
No offense to Shohei, but he certainly didn't do much yesterday to help win the game despite multiple opportunities with guys in scoring position.   It's not all the fault of the "other guys" if the Angels lose games.
People bitch that Shohei and Trout should get the chance to play on the "big stage" aka playoffs.   Well they both were on the "big stage" in New York with the game on the line yesterday and did nothing memorable for their "legacies".

Lol. Fletcher reports something and *crickets.* Blum reports the same thing and he gets called a twat.
This board has always been moderately antagonistic towards negativity. There’s a decent subset of posters who have been unable to get off Arte’s nuts while the man has driven the franchise nearly into the ground.

I guess it was overlooked in your interview and just brought up now that Sam Blum tweeted it. For as much as users here hate the guy, they sure do like to post his tweets and make threads about him. Thank you for being objective and showing how petty Arte is being.

Arte sucks balls. He deserves all the ragging he gets. I can't understand how fans still support him after the way he's run their favorite team. Especially after he says he's going to sell and then changes his mind. F him.

So 28 other teams send the radio guys to the game and the Angels are the ones that are correct for not doing the same thing? Bunch of homers. Oh and if Jeff Fletcher reported this, you guys wouldn't s*** all over him.

He's not stirring the pot. He's reporting about something stupid the Angels do to save money that 28 other teams do not do.
Last season, there were plenty of people who noticed that the radio commentating often didn't match what was actually happening. I guess if you're just listening in the car you wouldn't know, but I think it's better if what we're hearing is accurate.

Frieri Meatball reacted to ten ocho recon scout in Ohtani and cap space.
    That's the hiccup, isn't it.
I've traditionally been one of the people on here who's defended Moreno when people call him cheap. He's not. We're always top ten in payroll.
That said, Moreno needs to accept the bad money spent, is spent. Regardless. You can't lose that money, get upset it was wasted, and not spend more.
You can to a certain point... you can't go "Full Mets" every year. But you can't spend a decade pointing out you signed Pujols and look at the payroll and call it "did my part".
If he's going to sign Ohtani, he needs to also commit to surrounding him with other talent. Period.
And if he can't do both those things (sign Ohtani, and sign more talent) then deciding not to sell was about the stupidest thing in history.
I have no idea of Ohtani wants to stay or not. Arte deciding to stay leads me to think he is. And obviously Ohtani brings in a metric ton of money.
Losing Ohtani will lose so much more... a new owner could lose Ohtani and people bitch but likely move on. If Arte loses Ohtani... after deciding not to sell... lol

Frieri Meatball reacted to ThisismineScios in Are you BIG MAD that Arte is keeping the team?
If this is actually true, fine. This could be a good thing. But how do we know that suddenly Arte cares enough to do things differently? We heard at the trade deadline he didn't want to trade Ohtani because he thought fans would blame him. So there's some amount of awareness. But it's blatantly obvious what it'll take to convince fans anything is different:
-Offer Ohtani a $500 million contract
-Spend money right now on the bullpen, backup C, another starter, etc. in a way that takes you over the luxury tax. Prove to fans you are willing to pay it instead of announcing to fans for 5 years you are willing but never doing it
    -Announce a stadium renovation plan
-Speak to the media--I'm not talking about Sam Blum's tantrum, but answer a few questions. Maybe do a sitdown with Fletcher about why you changed your mind and what you want to do
    -Start being visible
-Publicly support your GM and affirm his autonomy
Otherwise, I feel we are going to be treated to continued underinvestment in baseball operations, never going over the tax, small increases in payroll every year so you can say, "We increased our payroll!", and bad stadium deals.

No way. Anyone who was going to come in on a team with trout and ohtani and win the bidding process was going to be willing to spend more than Arte ever will. Arte is committed to mediocrity. If you have over $100M committed to 3 players you can't win with anything short of a $250M budget unless you have a fantastic farm system, which the Angels do not. The fact he's gloating about a "franchise record payroll" while still having the 3rd, possibly 4th best roster in the division just shows how delusional he is

A single unified philosophy from top to bottom.   No limits on collecting smart people at any level of the org.   a proper marriage of analytics and conventional scouting Keep Ohtani but winning take precedent over star power.    Reasonable budget flexibility not a semblance of the pennywise pound foolish mentality Build teams on a yearly with the future in mind.  Don't constantly live year to year.   Appropriate resources at all levels without sacrificing the lower levels for short term gain at the major league level

He’s clearly an Arte Moreno yes-man and he has no business being President of an MLB team.

Frieri Meatball reacted to ettin in Rob Manfred: The Angels are hoping to be sold before Opening Day
I think Ohtani factors into this sale equation more than people realize, as Pancake said. For Moreno it's probably millions added to the sale and for a potential new owner, getting in before the season starts and making a mega-deal offer for such a high-profile superstar makes a ton of sense and has terrific implications for sales and the teams chances of winning consistently with Mike Trout.
$$$$ for both sides and implications of winning a championship with someone like Ohtani. Honestly, everyone keeps talking about a SS, but my God they need to save that money for an Ohtani extension. He is the Ace everyone kept screaming for, previously, and his bat only adds to the value (and actually kind of gives great insurance if he hurts his arm again, because he can return and hit well, probably).
I don't mind if they run out Joe Blow at SS and extend Ohtani, the latter is all that matters to me, personally, he is a must sign. Trade other assets for a short-term SS and wait for someone like Neto to enter the picture.

I'm starting to not even care anymore! Just trade Ohtani or tell everyone what is going on with the sale! Give the fan base some kind of Hope for Better days in the future! I get he's been injured. He did better than anyone here outside of Ohtani last year! The strikeouts are still there. I don't know find another somewhere!!!
They stated they wanted a #1B for a few years now to pair with Ohtani.
