I disagree with the notion that the team is in trouble for the next decade. I see no reason this group of players can't turn it around offensively. We don't need Hamilton and Pujols to be what they were, we need them to be somewhere between what they have been in the past and what they showed this year. After that we need to fix the pitching. This can be done relatively quickly.

I don't see anything wrong with what Dipoto or Trumbo said.  The core is there.  But right now, they are the 2001 team.  We need them to come together and play like a team, and not individuals and become the 2002 team.  They need to step back, take a look at their mess, and decide as a team they are much better than this.  I don't see any bases loaded, no outs, "I let my team down, but the next guy had my back" attitude.  
 
Right now, I see a lot of "we's" as in we didn't perform, but there doesn't seem to be any "I's" as in I didn't come through.  

+1....and any of the Cuban defectors out there waiting for clearance....farm system is thin, FA market this winter is thin, seems to be something to consider....considering Kendrys was a good pick up, it's not like we've bombed in the international market when we've jumped in....

If this guy turns out to be a true #2 starter then it's the best and maybe only chance the halos will have of acquiring a player of that caliber perhaps for the next 2-3 years.  I hope they take a really hard look at this guy. 

He's never really been an ace, he's always had #2 stuff, but this was never a problem before because of the depth of the rotation.
 
He's always been a good #2, but now he's more like a 3. We have two of those at the top of our rotation.

If you need a starting pitching upgrade, those 6 starts, with a quality veteran like Vargas (assuming he's healthy), might be the difference in getting you into the playoffs...But if you can't get anything much in return, hold on to him and make him a qualifying offer in the offseason...

Shuck isn't worthless, he has some skills....a better Reggie Willits perhaps....but his ceiling is a lot lower than Calhoun's.....Calhoun is struggling and may not work out but his skill set and ceiling are light years ahead of Shuck's...at best, Shuck is a 4th OF'er, and that's ok....but Calhoun could be a decent all around OF'er.....so Scioscia will play Shuck....sigh....

Agreed...same as Green and Calhoun....no reason not to play them as much as possible down the stretch...if they flunk the test, so be it, we'll move on, but I would much rather see those guys than Nelson, Field, Cowgill or the latest Rockie/DBack reject....they all have some potential, based on what we have heard, so let's see what they can do.....

I'm sure Arte knows he's ultimately responsible for the team's performance. Probably because he's....the owner. He's also committed to winning a championship and will continue to make tough decisions to turn this team around. NOBODY is more disappointed with the season than Arte.
 
Saying that, I have full confidence Arte will right the ship. I wouldn't want any other owner, period.

I think we have a legit middle of the rotation guy in Vargas....his stats from the past few years (including this year) say so.....really think we need to upgrade the pen, that's been our biggest issue for awhile....

Dismissing all media reports relying on unnamed or unquoted sources, as you and others (Lifetime, cough, cough) seemingly always do, is rather close minded....I tend to be somewhere in the middle....I don't jump on every media rumor as fact nor do I dismiss them all, particularly if it comes from Rosenthal, who, despite your narrow viewpoint, does have sources and is a credible reporter...same as Olney and others....
