jangel7 reacted to Chuck in Curt Schilling: I will not participate in the final year of voting. I am requesting to be removed from the ballot.
Based on what Schilling has done on the baseball field, especially in the postseason he should be a Hall of Famer yesterday.
It's too bad that exercising first amendment rights has any bearing on getting selected to Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame.
The man didn't cheat like Bonds, A-Rod and Clemens. He should be in there based on his merits at his profession.
It's stupid.

jangel7 reacted to greginpsca in Your ideal lineup/batting order for 2020?

jangel7 reacted to Stradling in Pitcher List on Angels starters in 2020
Teheran made 33 starts last year. He averaged 5 1/3 innings. In 25 of those starts he gave up 3 ER or less.
Bundy made 30 starts last year. He averaged 5 1/3 innings. In 22 of those starts he gave up 3 ER or less.
So in 15 starts out of 63 starts they gave up 4 runs or more.
They pitched 5 innings or more in 51 if 63 starts.

jangel7 reacted to Stradling in Pitcher List on Angels starters in 2020
Teheran and Bundy combined to give up 4 runs or less in 51 of their 63 starts last year. So if the team is going to see a lot of 7-6 games then the bullpen is going to suck.

jangel7 reacted to Stradling in Do you think Eppler will get any more pitching?
You forgot:
5: Adding a catcher, two starters that will give you 350 innings, and the best offensive free agent is punting on the season.

jangel7 reacted to mulwin444 in Alex Wood signs with the Dodgers (1 year, $4 million)
The pitching is not a "mess" and it is a lot better than 2016-2019.
2016: Weaver was in his death throws at 5.06 ERA 178 IP, Shoemaker put a quality 3.88 ERA 103 ERA+ in 160 IP while the rest were at or near 100 IP
2017: Ricky Nolasco was bad (4.92 ERA 86 ERA+) in 181 IP, J.C. Ramirez was decent (ERA 102 ERA+) in 147 IP. Jesse Chavez was bad, and Parker Bridwell peaked (3.64 ERA 117 ERA+) in 121 IP, never to be repeated again.
2018: Heaney showed flashes of his 3 starter ability (4.15 ERA 101 ERA+) at times in 181 IP, Barria surprised in (3.41 ERA 123 ERA+) in 129.1 IP monitored innings, while Skaggs started fast but fell apart...everyone else was under 100 IP
2019: Complete disaster
This is best rotation we've had since 2015. You have two durable starters at least (Bundy and Teheren) another with recent enough success (Heaney) and young, legit starters with upside (Ohtani, Canning, Sandoval and Barria). It could be better but this is the best it has been in a while.

jangel7 reacted to eligrba in Does every other team have at least one starting pitcher that is better than anyone on the Angels?
This is like watching a toddler whine....over and and over again.
How about letting the season start before complaining? How about giving the team a chance to play before complaining?

Jarrod Washburn, Ramon Ortiz, Scott Schoenweis, Kevin Appier, Aaron Sele. (Matt Wise, John Lackey, Mickey Callaway).

Dylan Bundy and Julio Teheran quality starts total in 2019 - 25
total for the Angels in 2019? 22

jangel7 reacted to angelsnationtalk in Make a deal already
TOTALLY agree we need a front line starter. BUT hear me out..
The Angels need to become a dynasty team and not go "win now for this year". How do they do that? They keep Adell, Marsh and Canning. They can more than likely afford to sign Keuchel AND trade for someone like Boyd who has been rumored with the Angels today. No, it doesn't get us an "Ace", but it completely reshapes our typical injured rotation and gives us a great amount of depth should any injury happen. The Angels can definitely get themselves to the playoffs with the offense they have and by adding Keuchel and one of Jon Gray of Boyd.
That's why I think Eppler is holding off on shopping Marsh right away. Marsh has the bat from the left side that Eppler loves and he's the next piece once Upton falls apart again.

jangel7 reacted to Inside Pitch in It's possible the Angels pitching situation isn't as dire as we make it to be...
I got as far as the post about rose colored glasses before I quit reading the responses...
So... rather than offer any opinion -- here are the Steamer projections for some of pitchers the Angels "lost out"on beyond the big two...
Zack Wheeler - 189 IP, 4.14 ERA, 4.17 FIP, 4.09 xFIP, 3.3 fWAR 23 Mil AAV
M Bumgarner- 199 IP, 4.52 ERA, 4.43 FIP, 4.54 xFIP. 2.5 fWAR 17 Mil AAV
Cole Hamels - 164 IP, 4.27 ERA, 4.20 FIP, 4.29 xFIP, 2.3 fWAR 18 Mil AAV
Tanner Roark - 181 IP, 5.16 ERA, 5.09 FIP, 5.04 xFIP, 1.3 fWAR 12 Mil AAV
Jordan Lyles - 142 IP, 5.21 ERA, 5.10 FIP, 5.09 xFIP. 1.3 fWAR 8 Mil AAV
Kyle Gibson - 174 IP, 4.42 ERA, 4.40 FIP, 4.31 xFIP, 2.9 fWAR 9.3 M AAV
Mike P ineda - 129 IP, 4.65 ERA, 4.54 FIP, 4.48 xFIP, 1.7 fWAR 7.6 M AAV
Now some of the guys still available ....
Dallas Keuchel- 188 IP, 4.30 ERA, 4.20 FIP, 4.23 xFIP, 2.6fWAR
Hyun-Jin Ryu -- 177 IP, 4.04 ERA, 4.08 FIP. 4.10 xFIP. 2.9 fWAR
Wade Miley -- 156 IP, 4.53 ERA, 4.64 FIP, 4.66 xFIP. 1.7 fWAR
Gio Gonzalez -- 142 IP, 4.69 ERA, 4.74 FIP, 4.93 xFIP, 1.5 fWAR
Lastly -- the Angels internal options...
Andr Heaney - 180 IP, 3.99 ERA. 4.11 FIP, 4.15 xFIP, 3.0 fWAR
Dylan Bundy - 180 IP, 4.45 ERA, 4.52 FIP, 4.63 xFIP, 2.3 fWAR
Sho Ohtani --- 110 IP, 3,72 ERA, 3,78 FIP, 3.93 xFIP, 2.2 fWAR
Grif Canning - 147 IP, 4.34 ERA, 4.40 FIP, 4.53 xFIP, 1.8 fWAR
Pat Sandoval - 121 IP, 4.36 ERA, 4.63, FIP, 4.71 xFIP, 1.2 fWAR
People can dismiss the projections like always, they are nothing more than educated guesses using peripheral data, past performance and historical aging curves... But when it's all said and done this is about as unbiased as it gets and the results are likely going to surprise people..
Two of the better options are still out there...

jangel7 reacted to Angel Oracle in Three durable starting pitchers out there?
Bundy is here now, just two more pitchers are needed.
He's averaged about 170 innings the past 3 seasons, with an ERA around 4.80. Plus, he dumped his 4 seamer and improved significantly from July on in 2019.

jangel7 reacted to Stradling in Cole's Asking Price: Too steep, or too stupid to pass up?
Also can we please stop thinking an Ace only helps you win games that he pitches? An Ace saves your bullpen which keeps them fresh to help throughout the week. It truly feels like this is something being overlooked.

jangel7 reacted to Second Base in Moustakas
A left handed, all-star, power hitting 3B/2B that will also fill in at 1B?
Perfectly describes Tommy La Stella.
It would be impossible to fit Moustakas into the lineup without taking either Fletcher or La Stella.

I'm going with Mike Trout, Vlad Guerrero, Nolan Ryan & Tim Salmon.
How about yours?

jangel7 got a reaction from Chuck in Dan Straily anyone?
Would Straily have pitched better than Cahill yesterday? They seem to be the same type of Pitchers to me. He would add depth, but I do not see him as any improvement really

jangel7 got a reaction from jordan in Why is optimism so hard?
Career years from a few guys plus good health is always possible. So spring always brings Optimism for me. 50 years of watching this team has brought enough surprises and great moments that I can't help but overhype and dream of what could be each and every spring. Most years it fades by the All Star break, but I just can't help but be excited once again .

jangel7 reacted to Jeff Fletcher in I've been resisting it, but...we're gonna lose Trout
Either that or he has assumed all along that Trout would re-sign because he’s talked to Trout and Moreno frequently and knows what both want.
