Moustakas

I haven't been the proponent of him that some of you have been, but I think he would be an absolute perfect fit for the team this offseason. He checks all the boxes...left handed, power hitter, solid defender at third and second, and can probably play first if necessary. He would be an ideal fit, and could make a guy like Rengifo or Fletcher or LaStella expendable in the right trade.

I realize the money should be spent on pitching, but if we miss out on Cole and are looking at position players, he ought to be tops of the list.

How many years does the front office have to pass on Moustakis before people stop lobbying for us to sign him?

I feel ya @wopphil. I think he provides help at 3B, 2B, 1B and DH when Ohtani is pitching and Pujols is at 1B. 

He showed he can hit southpaws and improved his defense this past season. Came up with some clutch hits for the Brewers and hit well against good pitching. 

Would be great to bring home two hometown players in Cole and Moustakas.

Fangraphs has him at 3/36 so I don't know if he's a fit financially if we sign two top end SP's. 

I'd like to think they can nab a guy like Castro or Maldonado for pretty cheap. Adding Moustakas though offsets the 3 days a week that Ohtani will be out of the lineup. So I think it's imperative that they add a lefthanded power bat to at the very offset that loss in the lineup and add to what could be a powerful lineup with Ohtani in it.

I think Moustakas was a better idea two years ago. But he's 31 now and the Angels really don't need him.

Perfectly describes Tommy La Stella.

It would be impossible to fit Moustakas into the lineup without taking either Fletcher or La Stella.

Moustakas is a barely above league average hitter. Thinking he’s the solution is an even worse idea.

If we miss out on Cole then we need to go after Strasburg, Wheeler, etc. Our infield has a ton of depth so enough of this Moustakas crap. We can’t keep falling back on upgrading offense. Clearly that hasn’t gotten us anywhere over the last 10 years.

I had been a proponent for the last couple years, but that ship has sailed. 
The only reason i do it at this point is if we somehow move some combination of Rengifo, Fletcher, Thaiss, Ward could somehow be traded for a top end starter, and i dont think thats likely.
At this, someone queue Elsa.... let it go.

After we sign the necessary pitching we need, then it’s time to take a look at position players. Until that happens, Moustakis discussions are a non-starter for me.

Choosing Cozart over him was a stupid horrible mistake. Time to move on. La Stella is in that role with Fletcher and we need SP.

This offseason is going to be an anxious time for me until Cole is signed, one way or the other. Last year it took way too long for Harper and Manny to sign, but I didn't care much because we weren't trying to sign either one. This year is different and I hope Cole doesn't take until ST to make up his mind.

Eppler's comments about being willing to move youngsters leads me to believe that it would be appropriate to keep an eye on guys like Moustakas, Gregorius, Schoop, Gennett, Kendrick, Castro, Flores, Travis, Panik, Cabrera, even Donaldson, Rendon, and Castellanos. Lots of options out there and if we have to deal one of Fletcher, Thaiss, Rengifo, Jones in a deal for pitching, it makes sense to sign an infielder. 

Wouldn't surprise me either to see someone like Goodwin swapped for an arm like DeSclafani or Quintana, and the Angels rolling with someone like Adam Jones or Cameron Maybin - even Kole Calhoun - in RF.

Not necessarily, but that’s one option. But also as a 2B or 3B. Cozart moved. I believe Didi and Simmons are countrymen too, as us Schoop. Pairing them up might be fun.
