I love this idea, I really do. And I fully endorse it....
But this scenario is the kind where you present this to Perry in the WAR room with Arte sitting in the corner and when he hears this he jumps up saying " no no no, we don't need to rebuild, we're so close to winning I just need to spend $200+M on a 31+ year old"

He did a good job by listening, but my gut tells me he thinks he made a mistake doing it while watching Turner tear in up in the postseason and the Angels miss the playoffs.

Part of being an Angels fan is continually counting on "the next generation" to step up and be a young core to build around.
I'm not saying Neto, Schanuel, O'Hoppe, etc.. aren't the real deal. I think they are. But it takes SO MUCH MORE than that. You need volume AND upside of you're going to build around a young core.
Many of us remember Salmon, Anderson, Edmomds, Glaus and Erstad. But not as many remember just how many didn't pan out in that same period of time. And that was the most fortunate period of Angels development.
That 2009 draft class was incredible, but was also sandwiches between the disappointments of Wood/Kotch/MacPherson and the subsequent selections that included Kaleb Cowart, Taylor Lindsay and Chevy Clarke.
The Angels minor league system lacks depth and upside. And the weapons that it does have, aren't kicking the major league door down. That's why I support a rebuild.

This team carries a TON of baggage so a little more won't hurt.

Just bring back Scioscia at this point.
He's younger than Buck and Ron.
This team hasn't been the same since he left.

angelsnationtalk got a reaction from ELEVEN in Is Theo Epstein the simplest answer?
I've gotten to the point where I have to see it. I was thrilled Maddon was coming to coach and then nothing went well. Epstein wouldn't be able to "do his own thing" with Arte being so heavily involved. I'd like Epstein to be part of an ownership group if Arte sold. Then again, I still need to see action.

Not a fan of this, but then again who knows. I do wonder if they are seriously considering bringing Eppler back. Or they just promote some rando.
I don't know how the management in this company even works. Seems like they don't either.

angelsnationtalk got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in OC Register: What do the Angels need to add to their roster for 2024?
    They need a miracle.
The rotation will consist of a lot of solid #3 and #4 guys so they need help there.
They also have a AAA lineup still with either injuries or no consistency.
Signing Ohtani would be fun, but it gets you exactly what you had this year. One star player with a revolving door at every other position.

    This is harsh.
I can honestly say that with health there isn’t a non major league position player as a starter.  We don’t even need to be 100% healthy for there to be a major leaguer at each offensive position.
    O’Hoppe
    Schanuel
    Drury
    Neto
    Rengifo/Rendon
    Ward
    Trout
    Moniak
    Adell
    Those are all major leaguers.
Also signing Ohtani doesn’t give you exactly what you had this year, because young players develop.  We have more young players than older players.  We at most will have 3 every day starters over the age of 30 in Drury, Trout and Rendon.

Interesting. I'm kind of hoping that they don't fire Perry. I like the way he's drafted and gone about trying to help this team. Having a revolving door of new Managers and GMs, to me, won't help solve anything. If the upper FO is looking for the perfect person then they need to take a step back.
I also believe it's too late for Arte to make notice of a sell. Although i've seen stranger things.....

It’s hard to argue against this. They’ve have had Ohtani and Trout at the same time and are routinely terrible. It’s actually quite sad.

To me it'd have to be having the two best players on your team not win one playoff game and then deciding they want out. Also, add in Arte not selling after that.
That's rock bottom and completely embarrassing as an organization. The Angels will become irrelevant for a few years if that happens.
