Are the Angels really in contention, though? 6 games back from the third wildcard. That's borderline at best.
 

This was a shitty season. Were not making the playoffs, were not going to make the playoffs and Ohtani is going to sign somewhere else. We should have sold everyone.

Seriously.  Our pitching has so many holes, what would we even trade for?  Our farm system is one of the worst in baseball, who are we moving to get someone like Giolito vs. the 10+ other interested teams?  Even Giolito has been about a 1.5 WAR player this year.  He might give us one additional win over the course of these last couple months, probably less adding him to a six man rotation.  
It's funny too that people are saying how disappointing the Padres have been and might sell off Soto to us, when they have a +30 better run differential than us...
Keeping Ohtani and selling off even more of our already barren system when we're 6+ games back of the WC would be a very Angels thing to do though, so I wouldn't be surprised if we're buyers.

Decide what you want for him.  Let the other front offices know your asking price and then when that price is met you move him and don’t look back.

There's no real good 4 for a Mount Rushmore but Trout and Scioscia gotta be there.   Anyone saying Percival must be forgetting Francisco Rodriguez. Way better pitcher than Percival ever was. Led the majors 3 times in saves with the Angels including MLB record that still stands today. (only 6 full seasons with the Angels but same as Vladdy)

If anyone has seen him pitch this POLL would be so lopsided in favor of trading for him.

Mickey Moniak has a .900+ OPS in AAA this season. He's not trash.  Former 1st overall pick in 2016.  for 6 weeks of syndergaard it's worth the gamble.

Trading him is the smartest move. But nobody here will be upset if they resign him, even if it doesn't make sense.
 
That said, I think you can win this trade. If you're able to flip Ohtani for another bona-fide SP on the young side, and another usable piece, you win the trade.
Not in the eyes of fans or media. That will never happen. But in the success of the team I think you do. The money you save by not locking him up gets spread around more evenly, and hopefully a better roster than one megastar and black holes everywhere else.

Lets just move him to left field after he's done pitching.

They couldn't offer anything close to what he would have accepted because we wasted all our money on Baldoquin before and we weren't allowed to offer more than 300k to international signees for 2 years after that. You can read about it here
