stanick88 reacted to tdawg87 in Angels sign Julio Teheran (1 year, $9 million)
I think we do. Robles was outstanding this past year, and we're getting Middleton back healthy. Buttrey struggled in the 2nd half but I expect him to rebound. That's a hell of a back end (not as good as Tank's, though).
We also have a wealth of peanuts and SP depth to choose from. Bedrosian was good. Noe Ramirez was good.

stanick88 reacted to Lou in Why Can't Any Pitching Metrics Pin Julio Teheran Down?
I have a feeling Teheran will be better than a #5 starter for us

stanick88 reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Why Can't Any Pitching Metrics Pin Julio Teheran Down?
In a lot of cases the predictive stuff is still based on the old concept of FIP, which I think has been pretty thoroughly debunked. The idea that pitchers have no control of the quality of contact simply goes against common sense.

stanick88 reacted to tdawg87 in Quality Starts
I know the "quality start" stat is considered to be dubious at best, but it's important to see the overall picture.
The Angels, as a team, had just 22 quality starts in 2019. That's 18 fewer than the next closest team, and 24 fewer than the league average. That's just absolutely hilarious.
Let's look at the total number of quality starts by the Angels' two pitching acquisitions this winter:
Bundy: 10
Teheran: 15
So those two pitchers had MORE quality starts than our entire rotation in 2019. If we assume the same production from our starters and Bundy/Teheran, we're up to 47 quality starts. That's not great, but it's certainly a big step in the right direction.
Now if we add Keuchel, who had 12 quality starts last year (in a shortened season, mind you), that brings our total up to 59. That would have been tied for 5th in the AL. And again, this is assuming we have the same awful performance from our rotation, and Ohtani adds 0 QS and Keuchel doesn't add any more QS.
Now, is there a correlation between number of Quality Starts and ERA? Well, at least for 2019, yes.
Outside of Tampa Bay, the top 4 teams in QS finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in ERA, respectively. The 5th team, Boston, finished 7th.
So what am I saying here? Basically, if we add Keuchel, we have an above average rotation that should be near the top of the league in quality starts, and possibly in the top 5-6 in ERA.
Lets do this, turds.

stanick88 reacted to robblin17 in Thoughts on Betts/Price and Angels
I just traded Upton and Marsh for Cole in MLB 2020. Cole must've really hated his first day in NY.
Get it done, Eppler!

stanick88 reacted to Tank in What would Robbie Ray and Boyd realistically cost?
these threads have become frustrating. either we greatly overvalue our players or we way overestimate the price to trade with another team.
i'm going to sit this one out.
don't trade adell or marsh.

Saw this posted on the Prospects forum and thought this would be a good share with all these trade ideas floating around centered around Marsh.

stanick88 reacted to Inside Pitch in Analyzing the remaining starting pitcher options
LOL.. People really want to see them sign a pitcher.. Say what you willl these threades are still better than someone posting a link to a tweet that says -- Angels interested in (name of pitcher). At least these threads are an attempt to talk about things, those tweets amount to nothing more than "no shit sherlock".

stanick88 reacted to UndertheHalo in Rangers have acquired Kluber from the Indians
He’s won his 2 Cy Young’s over the last decade. He was obviously a good pitcher as recently as 2018. A lot can change when older guys get injured. Why do you guys think the Angels need to over pay to take on fairly expensive players with substantial risk. There are other options. Forget about this.

No chance that’s true.
I guess the Angels will end up with Keuchel and Robbie Ray.
Just a guess.

stanick88 reacted to Blarg in Angels are interested in Corey Kluber
By the way, having to decide between Fletcher and LaStella is a shit ton better dilemma than between Giavotella and Featherston.
-
stanick88 reacted to Docwaukee in Angels are interested in Corey Kluber
Fletcher is not a platoon player and isn't going to lose at bats with the addition of Rendon.
-
stanick88 reacted to Pancake Bear in Angels are interested in Corey Kluber
That possibility is legitimate and is another reason why Fletcher is basically off the table for me.
-
stanick88 reacted to hangin n wangin in Angels interested in Anthony Rendon
Please one freaking time. Kluber and rendon would make me a lot happier about everything that pisses me off about this team.

stanick88 reacted to Angel Oracle in The Official Gerrit Cole (Please sign with the Angels) Thread
Cole, Yamaguchi, and Bundy without giving up any key prospects would be a solid enough off-season.
Any rumors on what numbers Yamaguchi is looking at, salary wise?

stanick88 reacted to Duren, Duren in Dylan Bundy to the Angels for Isaac Mattson, Zach Peek, Kyle Bradish, and Kyle Brnovich
This trade is very sensible. The Angels starters mostly couldn't last half a game even. An inning eater with an ERA in the mid 4.00s who starts 25 times, goes 125 plus innings. is certainly a positive.
Back rotation pitchers are important in the long run. You need some steady, dependable arms to stretch the innings, rest the mid relievers and stay competitive into the last four innings.
The Angels should have a better offense behind Bundy. More runs scored will let him eat more innings.
Of course he has his flaws, but he is intended to play a certain role, not be the ace. He has enough experience, knowledge of the league and a very good k rate. What happened in Baltimore is also a reflection of the types of games he was in too, where he had to serve as as a de facto ace and carry more pressure.
A nice, modest move by Eppler. Not the blockbuster trade or signing, but a positive addition for the most glaring position of weakness.

stanick88 reacted to Chuck in Dylan Bundy to the Angels for Isaac Mattson, Zach Peek, Kyle Bradish, and Kyle Brnovich
Now trade Sandoval or Suarez and someone like Jordyn Adams for Contreras and Darvish. Sign Gerrit Cole. Done!
Added offense from a position of weakness for the Halos and added an ace-like arm to trio up with Ohtani and Cole.
