Minasian made the right call to get him off the field and rest. Maddon disagrees simply because no suit is going to tell him what to do.

TroutField got a reaction from Swordsman78 in Angels sign Phil Nevin to a one year deal
I’m not going to pretend I know what goes on behind the scenes but Trout has spoken highly of Nevin, and that matters, imo. He seems to have a better grasp of bullpen management and the team has seemed to have played better later into the season. He did have garbage on the roster most of the season so it’s hard to judge him based on the W-L record.

With that said, hard to not get the sense this will be a transition year. All the needs this roster has probably won’t be met. Hopefully Minasian can be creative and get a LF, 1st baseman, and bullpen help in here. Otherwise, Ohtani is gone.

They should all line up and play water balloon toss with Adell.

I’d assume it would be the same in any job. You need structure but not micromanagement. You need discipline but you need the last amount of discipline to get the result you want. You need open lines of communication and you need to be approachable. If you do those last couple of things well you can have a lot of rules.

I think this is totally wrong.

Plus, I think most of the real “work” guys do on their swings is in the indoor cages because they have more tech and cameras and stuff in there.

Why wouldn’t he be back, with how solid the pitching was this year?

Took 3 wildcard playoff spots and most of the AL being trash for the Mariners to make it.

Somewhere toward the end of the 14-game losing streak.

What moment made you resign yourself to the fact that this was going to be yet another season without playoffs?  For me, it was after getting swept by Baltimore.

Typical year we have experienced since 2010, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
they show flashes of good play but just don’t have the depth to do it over long periods of play. That, coupled with the best players not ever staying on the field for a full season, well you know the rest.

TroutField reacted to stormngt in Angels // Shohei Ohtani avoid arbitration and agree to a 1-year, $30 million deal for 2023
I don't see this as good news.  The last year of arbitration is usually included in the long term extension.  It's an incentive for the player to take the offer of an extension because you get the big money a year earlier.
This maybe a sign that Ohtani is going to test free agency no matter what Ohatani offers.
If that's the case we should trade him in the off season.

This feels like one of those things where the Angels sign him and this is what they get, next year he will go to the dodgers and turn into one of the best relievers in baseball.

    such is life

    Not that my opinion matters.....
Pass on Montomery, I'd rather take my chances with Nevin.
Given the roster he's had, he's done a good job.

I really belief this will be a lame duck off season. Pitchers in minors will end up in bullpen in 2023. Big changes will not happen until sale of team is completed. Look for 2023 to be 8th straight losing season.

TroutField reacted to Docwaukee in What happened to Brandon Marsh?
Trout is probably still just as good as marsh in CF.  Actually think LF is the right spot for Marsh personally.  He's probably avg in CF and excellent in LF.   I kinda feel like you lose a shade of value by moving him.
Also, Marsh has a .390 babip for PHI with a 3% walk rate and a 30% k rate.  I have no doubt he'll end up being a solid player at least.  Not sure they've 'fixed' him but we'll see.
