I guess all the consistent Angels losing has caught up with me. I used to know almost every player on every team, now I have no idea who the hell this guy is that is apparently a decent starting pitcher.

The thing about the Angels trading anyone for prospects is that they can't properly develop or scout talent.  The fact that we've made the playoffs once in the past 13 years and still consistently have one of the most barren farm systems in baseball is a testament to that.  Say hypothetically we trade Ohtani: best case is maybe we'll get lucky and grab a higher level roster player along with some "can't miss" types that are too far along for our development staff to get their hands on.  The more "Angels" result would probably be Arte wanting to receive splashy roster players to grind into his marketing machine and to keep the MLB club spinning it's wheels, along with some fringe far off prospects.  
This is the reason we're in this twilight zone shit purgatory in the first place, and it starts from the top down.  Until Arte kicks the bucket or sells the team to competent leadership that actually cares about developing a winner, I don't see much changing no matter what path we take *cues Debbie Downer emoji*
 

The only enjoyment I will receive at this point is from the butthurt that will arise should Ohtani sign here.

I took this as a joke prediction, or not something to be taken seriously.  A wacky, far-out prediction.
Living in the ATL, I can't see Liberty Media shelling out what it would take to sign him long term.  They don't usually spend (Matt Olson contract notwithstanding, but that money would have gone to Freeman anyway).
But I've been surprised before.  Not expecting it.

Unfortunately Arte has showed us over the last 10 years what the payroll limit is and that staying within that budget is more important than winning. Eppler basically showed us what the hard cap is and that comes straight from Arte. I get that Moreno is not cheap and has paid players substantial amounts of money. But I stilll haven’t seen him care more about winning than the payroll figure, because he has the money to go crazy and make this team at least respectable.
 
I don’t see them being competitive until the team is sold, he makes way too many decisions on a whim and has way too much say in the baseball operations.
Even down to firing Ausmus and brining in Maddon, only for that to backfire. Decision after decision goes wrong, dating back to the Tony Reagins day. The only constant has been Moreno.  
 

Yeah, I'm not even getting in on the Soto stuff. That should tell you plenty.

If Jeter is involved in this team, I will be 100% done with the Angels until he is gone for at least three reasons.
1). I am exhausted by the never-ending idea that some specific past player is going to “bring his winning” to the team.  Jeter was a great player on a great team.  But he is a Yankee, not an Angel. Bringing a to-the-bone-marrow Yankee here in hopes of having their winning dna somehow help this organization Is nothing short of pathetic and humiliating.
2). Fuck Derek Jeter.  He is a Yankee.
3). Fuck Jeter.

I'm Shohei.  Sell me on why I should stay.  Money?  Do you know how many teams would be willing to back up the truck?   
They went into this year with aspirations of winning.  Not just being competitive.  There's been what?  On key injury?  It's been an abject failure.  Beyond what most smart baseball people can even reconcile.   You were supposed to put the team in a position to win.  How can I even remotely trust you.  
and that's just the first thing.  Maybe you convince Shohei that it was just a bad luck season or something.  What's your plan?  What in the past 10 years is gonna make me even remotely think you have your shit together?  
To me, it's not even about getting Shohei to stay.  It's about Trout wanting to stay.  The expectations coupled with the results for this season could be the defining moment for this franchise.   If I'm Mike Trout, I'd be looking pretty hard at my future right now.  Keeping Ohtani is a pipe dream.  

I am guessing Ohtani is looking more for a legacy than money. There would need to be a dramatic change in outcomes for me to believe he would consider signing an extension.  I have to believe the Ohtani window is either already closed or slamming shut.
I can't imagine a franchise being operated any worse than the Angels.

For Shohei’s legacies sake, he should leave this dumpster fire, trash organization. He deserves so much better and a chance to win. That clearly is not going to happen here due to the morons that run this organization. 

The Trout is done threads come up every year it seems like, Scioscia said it best in 2018 when Trout was "struggling" out of the gate. Quit worrying about Mike.

Just saw the lowlights... and saw Marsh's HR. They STILL did the stupid hat thing despite being down 9-1 in the 9th. If that doesn't tell you the state and mindset of this team... then I don't know what will. They clearly don't know how to read the room or care how the season has been going.

We'd need to win 10 in a row not to be in the WC, but to legitimately be in the conversation.
