this is the egregious part of how this was handled. the embassy people and civilians in country should have been evacuated weeks ago, and well before the military was drawn down. this is completely unacceptable.
i'm glad they're sending troops back to make the evacuation goes better now, but it shouldn't have come to this in the first place.

Yep it's a good thing we are out. Probably should have evacuated the embassy a week prior though.

Had to be done.  Trump and his cult would be calling it the greatest thing since his inauguration crowd at Woodstock at this point and sleepy Joe did appear to fall asleep on this one, he must not be surrounded by the best and the brightest either.  It was going to end up a turd no matter what.

Hey that’s par for the course for us. I think we all remember how the Kurds felt when we withdrew and the images we saw of them pelting our military vehicles right before Turkey did their thing. Seems like Trump fucked that up with no plan. But meh, he did the right thing in my mind getting them out of Syria (he just shouldn’t have diverted them to Saudi Arabia).
Again, we did what we could and it was time to get out. Hopefully Biden can actually refrain himself and stay out.

Agreed but they could have planned a way to get the people out that assisted or worked with us when we were there. I do feel sorry for any that get left there and will have to suffer. That's pretty shitty on our part

Netflix:  Myth and Mogul:  John Delorean  Man, what a weird story.  I remember it as a kid, but never really heard the complete story.  It's amazing how someone with a vision could also be so short sighted.  If you like history, this is a good one to watch.  Oh, and no back to the future mentions.

If he's not finished his rehab stint by Sept 1st I'd shut him down. Especially if we're still 8+ games out of the 2nd WC.
Just forget it. Figure out what the true extent of his injury is and if the docs etc can really do anything to get him back into playing condition. If this is permanent then we're in uncharted waters. The irony is he might be perfectly healthy by next spring but there's a long strike due to labor discord.

Uggghhh. Living with that survivor's guilt would be rough. Strangely, a girl I grew up with was present for both the San Bernardino shooting and the Route 91 shooting. Completely unharmed in both, but I imagine it can't be easy on her either.
I've lost count now of the number of times people have started shooting near me (say within 50-100 yards) in my life. The only real close calls I've had were actually a few months apart. One was at a bar in Omaha. Total industry bar... a bunch of 25 year old white kids with English degrees waiting tables/bartending in nicer places downtown... And this was their after work spot. Same general crowd all the time. One night, I'm pretty sure it was July 1st because they had just started selling fireworks, some total gangbanger looking dude walks in. The whole deal. The wifebeater, the stache, the tats. Like this dude sticks out here. But he's polite to the staff, pays for his drinks, etc... Anyhow, he's sitting on this bench on the patio right against the fence. The parking lot beyond the fence is raised so that if you were standing on the outside of the fence your feet would be maybe a half foot above this dude's head. A quick barrage of pops go off, and three people seated at a table about six feet in front of me fall over. Because it's July 1st and I (along with everybody else) never saw a gunman, I just thought some asshole had thrown a string of fireworks over the fence as a prank. The head bartender came out and told everyone to get the fuck out, and so I left still thinking it was fireworks. Came back the next day to settle up my tab and the same bartender took me outside and showed me the holes in the fence. Definitely .22 or .25 (though who uses that really). And that's when the whole thing suddenly made sense to me. Cholo dude was trying to hide out for a bit, whoever was looking for him found him, then they tried to fire down on to him through a wooden fence with a .22 and the bullets deflected out a bit because of course. Anyhow, only three people got hit luckily, as there were definitely more shots than that and the place was pretty crowded. Everybody was more or less ok. One of the dudes that got hit was a friend of mine and the bullet sort of bounced around the inside of his foot and broke a bunch of bones. Another person (his gf) got hit in the ass. They found out she was pregnant while getting treated at the hospital apparently. Third one also got hit in the foot, but I think it was clean through.

Yikes, this thread. It's like we forget that two things can be true at the same time.
    1) Minor League guys having to work extra jobs isn't exactly slavery. Many people work multiple jobs, and having to drive Uber or stock shelves is the price paid for chasing a dream. It's a bet most guys lose, but that's how bets mostly work.

    2) For less than Raisel Iglesias, the Angels (and rest of the MLB) could make some MAJOR improvements in the feeding, training, housing, and scouting of Minor leaguers. If it improved the development rate (however measured) by even 5%, it would probably pay off in a big way down the road -- and would help keep costs low at the major league level. Seriously, if doing this three years ago had resulted in just ONE additional half-decent late inning reliever for this year's team, it might already have paid for itself.

So while I am not really troubled with a 30-year old man complaining that he's living like a college freshman, it would be nice for the Angels to commit money to these other ways of potentially improving performance.

You’ll never convince me that this whole project hasn’t just been a slush fund for nearly 30 years. This reeks of, at the absolute best, pure incompetence. The fact that so many are still committed to a useless project seems to indicate far worse.

Don got a reaction from ScottT in POLL: Who is MOST responsible for 6+ years of mediocrity?
Arte somewhat for sure. But the biggest and most solvable issue is and continues to be player development, specifically regarding pitchers. Some teams churn out great pitchers consistently, and some seem (like us) to do it almost never in the last decade. Drafting/international signings might play a part in that, but I’d guess it’s not the biggest part of it.

We’ll bring him back on September 20th when we’re 8 games out of the second wild card, after which he’ll tear his calf muscle because we brought him back too soon for no good reason, and we’ll still be reading these tweets next May.
