The Athletic is basically a digital version of Sports Illustrated that has writers who focus on (almost) every team. (The Angels aren’t one of them, though. They have a writer who splits his time between the Angels and Dodgers.) Their stories are often more big-picture, analytical and less nuts and bolts. They don’t even pretend to be the source of record for coverage of a team because they don’t have a story every day.

I would encourage everyone to subscribe to it because there’s a lot of good stuff in there that they can do because they aren’t bogged down with what I am, which is having to produce a minumum amount of content every single day and hitting everything that’s happening. While I am at every game and continually updating menutia like when Tyler Skaggs is back and how Ohtani is doing against lefties, they have a writer going to SLC and sitting down with Griffin Canning.

I think both are useful. If you can swing it, you should subscribe to both.

"I would encourage everyone to subscribe to it because there’s a lot of good stuff in there they will most likely be my future employer as newspapers and ESPN lay off more longtime respected sportswriters."

    FIXED.

  2. I've noticed Cowart keeps changing up his batting stance as well, I remember a couple years ago he was trying more of a John Olerud type swing with the bat resting on his shoulder, how he holds the bat farther out and it looks like he response time to the ball is worse.

I was a bigger fan of his previous batting stance but I noticed that when I check my voicemail I currently have no offers from any baseball team to be a hitting coach, so my opinion on this matter is worth about as much as Valbuena meant to this team.

  3. It really has become so predictable. The Angels will be facing a crappy team with a starter who's ERA is 4.50 and the starter will throw a no hitter through 5, the crappy team will slowly add more and more runs, then the Angels will get 1 or 2 runs in the 7th, leave men on base in the 8th, get 2 outs in the 9th, get a hit or two, and the someone will strike out to end the game.

  4. It's interesting that the biggest "scandal" Mike Trout has ever dealt with is the fact that MLB wants him to "do more" to be more popular. The guy literally does his talking on the baseball field, is universally loved by fellow baseball players, Angel fans, fans of other teams, and is the official masturbation fantasy of Angelswin.com, Philliesfans.net, YankeeYankers.org, and pornhub's baseball section.

  5. The truth is that the East Coast bias of the MLB wants Trout to play in New York or Boston, and they have a hard time understanding that maybe Trout doesn't give a flying f*ck about being the face of baseball or being a huge star. The dude just wants to play baseball, have fun, and go to the playoffs. He seemed pretty content with Ohtani getting the buzz in spring training. He is just a low key player.
