pomeranz was a first round top ten selection, from what i remember, then was traded by baltimore to colorado where no pitcher has ever had success. the A's made a very shrewd move in acquiring him. basically, every team should look to acquire any rockies pitcher that has shown good stuff, because their value is going to be way lower than what your returns may be. the exact opposite holds true logically for rockie hitters.

i don't think anybody, anywhere has suggested that not giving him a physical was sound. the greater reality is that it wouldn't have shown up during a routine physical because they don't do cervical mri's during that process.

i understand that, but i don't think it's as simple as "they're cheap", which is what i meant when i said i could see both sides of the story regarding the A's ownership. the A's organization makes very little money by mlb standards, maybe they're cheap, but if i was a billionaire i wouldn't invest my own money as operating capital for the franchise. so, i find it impossible for me to expect that from any of them. tax payer funded stadium deals, etc. are a totally different subject in my mind, but as far as payroll? whatever the income streams provide will set the payroll.

that's funny. moves like this, if he has some measurables, are what the angels should be doing. guys like this are the type of dudes that become reliable bullpen guys. i know nothing about him, but it's a no risk move.
