Mitch Williams Ejected from Children's Baseball Game

Recommended Posts

I hear Umpires at the 10 year old level get paid $300,000, get calls wrong, and rely on instant replay to correct them.  Oh wait, this is 10 year olds, they probably get paid a bag of skittles and $10.

Ump should just sue Ripken's tournament for millions for bullying, and shut them down.  Since he's more interested in protecting his buddies than the game.

I'm sure they are the best that baseball has to offer, and they should be held to the same standard as MLB umpires.

All Mitch Williams is teaching his kids is how to be an ass when a call goes against you.

Did anyone actually click on the link?

Yes.

"But according to our witnesses, the umpire's "unprofessional" behavior only came well after Mitch Williams was ejected and refused to leave."

It was such a train wreck. He was arguing with calls and making comments to both of the umpires all game. He was coaching first base as the game was going on, and the second base umpire threw him out. He "said" he was making a comment to one of the parents in the stands, when the second base umpire tossed him. He was making comments the whole game about the bad calls, and the 2nd base ump just had enough.

He went nuts. He got into the umpires face like it was the major leagues. He claimed that the umpire who was about 65 years old threatened him and said to pick a time and a place to fight Mitch.

The game was delayed for about 10 minutes as they needed to call in an official from Ripken until he finally was removed. It was crazy. Never saw a player get ejected from a game and not leave. This is all going on while 10 year olds are playing baseball, or trying to play baseball.

Ironically, the audio at the beginning of the game is from Cal Ripken which talks about how parents should let the players play, the coaches coach, and the umpires umpire. (IE - parents, don't act like idiots). Mitch was the idiot.

Sounds like the opposing teams' sources.

Anywho, this is nothing new. Everyone who has ever played little league baseball has witnessed profanity by the over-involved parent resulting in an ejection.

I'll take Mitch in the fight versus the ump. Anyone know when it's gonna happen?

Strange, I played youth baseball for 7 years and never saw that.

Actually saw quite a bit of this behavior playing LL.  Tons of high strung parents but there were plenty of times where the umpires instigated.

Williams is a douche and it appears the umpire may have laid down a douche gauntlet that Williams felt obliged to participate in.

Williams has enough clout to get the ban lifted, which is wrong but that is politics in LL. For dome reason they are attaching a value to Williams over the rules that apply to any other LL dad that thinks he is the second coming of Earl Weaver.

It probably won't be long before he does this again. Then it will again be the umpires fault for unfairly applying the same rules to Williams as to the other coaches. Wash, rinse, repeat. Hopefully MLB TV won't gloss this over with some stupid in studio jokes to protect their guy's ass.

amazing -- well, you all are familiar with the saying -- the only thing wrong with youth sports is the parents.......

and things seemed to have gotten worse.........you'd think a guy like Williams would know better.

bad calls happen -- umps are often volunteers (probably not at the Cal Ripken tournament level), great opportunity to explain to the kids, hey, bad breaks happen (in little league games and in life), have to buckle down and move on.
