Bumgarner is a playoff and world series ace. During the regular season he is not the #3 pitcher in baseball.

Absurd that it is taking Manfred so long to make a decision. The guy must be incompetent. I can see why Arte didn't want him to be named Commissioner.

It doesn't make a ton of difference financially. It just adds an extra year of arbitration for Bryant. The 4th year he will be making near market value. They aren't doing this for money. They are doing this because they get an extra year of Bryant. Maybe the Cubs are contending this year but they may also be contending in 2022 when Bryant could be gone as a FA. Sure they might miss the playoffs by a game this season (but even so it's hard to believe that Bryant would accumulate a significant amount of WAR in 9 games) but maybe they miss the playoffs by one game in 2022 with Bryant playing somewhere else. I'd think having Bryant for 95% of this season and all of '22 increases their chances of making the playoffs in both those years than having him for 100% of '22.

i agree it's a smart move for the service time clock, but there's no way you know whether the cubs are a playoff team or not. they have 3 playoff spots available to them.

This is just how ghetto people live their lives. No respect for themselves or others. No respect for life. They are their biggest enemy, and the sole reason they will continue living in ghettos, like ghetto people, in perpetuity. They have nobody to blame but themselves.
And by "ghetto" I mean to refer to and include barrios, white people trailer parks, and China towns.

I could live to be 100 and probably never see another prisoner executed in California. One of the men involved in the Bob's Big Boy massacre in 1980 (does anyone remember that one?) is still sitting on Death Row waiting for an execution date, 33 years after his sentencing.

It's unbelievable, really. The killers of this baby will grow old in San Quentin and die of natural causes. The citizens have no say anymore in this state.

    This.
Its not like it was a mutual fight gone bad. They rupped off some woman making minimum wage, then hit her once, and run her over a second time. They get caught and laugh about it.
    Zero redeeming qualities.
    Zero chance of redemption

Got released by the Rockies.  Wonder if Dipoto will give him a look considering his rockies connections.  I am always interested to see what certain guys can do once they get out of the high altitude.  He just turned 27 and a team can never have enough pitching.

One of my Facebook friends posted an absolute gem. It's a quote:
"Love isn't a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now."
But the kicker is that the quote is set to a backdrop photo of Mr. Rogers, sitting on his stairwell of his make believe living room. Apparently it would have been his birthday today, if he hadn't died years ago, and this must be some kind of tribute or something. I guess like the "in loving memory" stickers Latinos put on their Expeditions and Astro vans.

It is absolutely remarkable how many crime stories end "at a motel in Stanton."

I went to a KFC a few years back. Ordered something like a sandwich and a combo. Got to the window and there was this guy who was obviously a manager or something working. He was in way too good of a mood. Not sure if he was drunk, high or both.
Anyway, he reads me back my order: "chicken sandwich, combo meal, another chicken sandwich, another combo, two drinks and a chocolate cake. That will be $7.65."
Me: "I didn't order all that."
Him: (with a huge smile on his face) "I know brotha....I hooked you up."
I guess the guy just enjoyed giving out a shit ton of free food. Can't imagine he worked there much longer.

Cowgill is fine as a fourth outfielder, but the Angels have had some decent fourth outfielders... better ones, in fact.  Bourjos, Palmeiro, DaVanon... even Shuck and Willits were ok for stints.

I can see Cowgill losing his fourt outfielder title to Daniel Robertson or someone else.  His bat disappeared as the season went on last year.

The Angels should be a contender every year for at least the next 4-5 years. Once they finished spending major money on Pujols, Wilson and Hamilton and saw it wasn't working, Dipoto went back to what he does particularly well.
    Trade.
We have young pitching depth because he knows how to trade (Santiago, Skaggs, Heaney Tropeano). We have OF depth (Joyce and Cowgill) because Dipoto saw the field and worked out deals. We don't have to deal with Jeff Mathis or Bobby Wilson anymore because Dipoto dealt for Iannetta. We finally have a very good bullpen because Dipoto built it through trade (Street, Pestano, Ramos, Salas).
You may think the Angels are merely good right now and that's fine. Dipoto's approach the last two winters hasn't been sexy like the Mariners, but sexy doesn't win a World Series. Pitching and timely hits do.
Given his trading acumen going all the way back to Arizona, would any of you put it past Dipoto to pull off some sort of a deal that puts the Angels in the driver's seat?

The league is void of great teams right now fortunately. Hopefully they Angels can take advantage of that. Good post, though I don't know that Hamilton is key at all.

Pujols will need to at least be consistent with what he did last year for the next few years
