Absolutely amazing, yet, when I think of George its always him running out of the dugout with his balls on fire about to murder an umpire

I'd like to see MLB commit to a 2.5  hour average game time (excluding extra innings from the calculation of the average) and do whatever it takes to reach it.  Ultimately, if they can't make it happen by less drastic means, implement a pitch clock and limit all mound visits unless changing the pitcher.  These are significant changes and not preferable, however, the pace of the game is a far larger problem to me personally and my enjoyment of the viewing experience.  Your mileage may vary.

The big difference between pace of play now and in the 70's is the pitcher.  In the 70's if no one was on base the pitcher pitched the ball if it wasn't hit he caught the ball on the mound, took the sign from the catcher and pitched.  Today's game is, pitcher pitches the ball.  Comes off the mound, catches the ball walks up the mound, gets comfortable, and then looks in for the sign and pitches, and that's the best case scenario.  The next thing that's different is the hitter does the exact same thing.  In and out of the box.  They used to call Mike Hargrove the "Human Rain Delay" because of his antics between pitches in the batters box.  Now that's the norm.  Hell, wanna speed up the game, get rid of batting gloves.  The hitters screw with those things between pitches even if they don't swing at the previous pitch.  I'm sure I sound like "Old man yells at clouds" guy, but it's just an observation. I don't even mind the pace of play, it doesn't bother me, but it was a better game or at least moved better back then.

That's exactly why they are doing it.  Baseball is much slower than it was 30-40 years ago.  Watching games back then was almost like fast paced baseball.

Because the game is losing the interest of Elite talented kids from playing the game & thats why we hardly see any new superstars anymore. Meanwhile American talent in Ice Hockey is at an all time high with an American player being the #1 prospect in the upcoming draft & in the NHL american Patrick Kane led the league in points & the best goalie this year was american Ben Bishop.
With the amount of people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD its not surprising either.

I saw all these people from both sides getting crapped on in this thread and thought, "I gotta get in on this crapfest".
As a longtime Kings fan, other than brief windows here and there, I'm used to having playoff hopes die early.  That doesn't make me lose interest in the team, it just shifts from a win now perspective to a draft, young player development, who's showing character perspective.
As long as the team is reasonably diligent about building the team in line with a coherent philosophy it's easy to root for a team no matter how things go awry.  Not understanding the philosophy or seeing management go against  the purported philosophy makes one feel that we as fans are getting sold a bill of goods.  That's what makes it hard for me to watch the Angels right now, lack of observable direction.   Well, rephrase that to an unclear philosophy of rebuilding the team with a viable longterm plan to fully utilize the gift we've been given in Trout.  I am an optimist and give GM's a chance until they soil the sheets and have high hopes for Eppler.  However, my confidence in Arte has eroded as he has Admiraled the sinking of the fleet.  While he is hopefully learning from his billion dollar mistakes, he should deprioritize attendance in favor or doing what is necessary to rebuild this organization from the ground up, whatever the cost (not free agent cost but the price you have to pay to fully optimize player scouting, drafting and development).  The more I see a coherent direction, the more I can get excited about the team regardless of what the current standings are.

Are you sick and tired of watching Albert Pujols limp around on his hurt foot? Frustrated with Jered Weaver chucking 74 MPH heaters? Are you fed up with wasting the best years of Michael Nelson Trout? Then you'll love the 2016 Angels season!

Hi, Billy Mays here! I'm dead, but the 2016 Angels playoff hopes are not!

Remember how difficult it was watching the cluster**** in left field last season? Well fear no more, as GM Billy Eppler has added a platoon that will really fight those hard-to-reach grease stains.

I don't think the premise of the original post is true. The Angels have plenty of major league assets they can trade. If they are out of it by the deadline Street, Smith, Santiago, Wilson, Skaggs, Heaney, Calhoun, Simmons, Tropeano, Richards will all have some value. Teams in contention may be willing to trade several MLB or AAA ready players. I'm not advocating trading all of them but the right combination of them could bring in enough guys to be very competitive, younger, and cheaper next year or the year after.
The draft and international signings aren't the only ways to build a farm.
