I watched.  There are no "good guys"  Its going to be sad, tragic and ugly.  Who knows what transpired before, during or after.  Bottom line is that Putin nor the west are victims here.  Both are trying to manipulate events to their favor.  All I know for sure is that a sovereign nation is being taken apart and is caught in a tug of war between two parties who care very little about its inhabitants.

I was at the game last night. After the first inning I did relax. I knew it was over so I just enjoyed being at the park and joking with the A's fans. What disturbed me though was watching Pujols. I don't get to see him play in person much. He looks pathetic. He runs worse than Bengie Molina, he looks fat and old. I can't believe he is only 34. We are stuck with a player who has gone from a great asset to a big liability in 3 years. If he continues to bat in the 3 or 4 position it will doom us.

What some cons argue isn't that there is not climate change happening, but the difference is what is causing the climate change.  But keep on with the fake stuff, strawmen are easy to defeat.

Well, I'm sure there is a lot of genocide that happened in world history, some even today, that  75% of Americans don't care to believe in.  Doesn't mean that people hate those people.  They just aren't taught it.  And considering China probably doesn't teach it, it's not surprising on the results.

howie's kryptonite is the down and away slider.  everyone knows it.

a good chunk of relievers throw a good slider so it makes sense that he would be less effective in the later innings

Win probability added is basically a scoring system that totals the sum of his events with leverage taken into account

The sum total for his career is 0.31 and the total for the last couple of years including the portion of 2014, his total is -2.67.

Meaning that the sum total of events with him at the plate have had a negative value to the team.

In contrast, when you remove leverage from the equation (WPA/LI), the sum total for his career is 3.49 so his Clutch rating, or what he does in high leverage relative to neutralizing that is -3.19.

Since 2010, his total WAR is 13.8 or about 3.5 per year which makes him a solid player.  Ranked 7th among other 2b over that time
His WPA over that time is -1.67.  28th among qualified 2b.  If you take leverage out his WPA/LI is 3.05.  11th among qualified.
For all of major league baseball including the 2011 season till now, Kendrick has the lowest clutch rating of every qualified player at -4.93

Statistically, there are no two ways around it.  Howie is not good in high leverage situations.

acro2008 reacted to Angelsjunky in Bill Maher: The God (of the Old Testament) is a psychotic mass murderer
MT, I'm not as extreme as Bill Maher in that I don't think religion is inherently ridiculous, just literalism. I don't as much "make fun of Christianity" as point out the limitations of fundamentalism. So its only certain brands of Christianity, or the most literal/fundamentalist version, that I poke at. Why? Because literalist religion is the cause of a lot of the world's problems.

I am honestly curious about your, or someone else's response, to these questions:

    1) If every word of the OT is literally true, then God's behavior is akin to a mass murderer - he killed millions of people, including children, out of anger. How is this a just, kind, and loving God? Or to put it another way, how can one worship such a being that displays such tyrannical behavior?

    2) If every word of the OT is not literally true, how do you determine what is true and what not? What is to be taken literally and what not?

I think the key is determining whether or not one takes every word as literal truth or not. If everything is literal truth then we're left with fundamentalism, which I view as highly problematic - not only is there no room for discussion, but this sort of literalism leads to all kinds of problems. If every word isn't taken as literal truth, then there's room for discussion - and individual discernment of truth. This in turn means that such beliefs as "homosexuality is sinful" can be questioned--are questioned, and by Christians no less.

It appears many Americans evaluate our government's actions as mostly incompetent with some corruption sprinkled in and IMO that usually emerges logical, particularly at the city, county and state level. At the Federal level as incompetence and corruption still exist I think both major parties are scared shit of the subtle yet potent people that put them in office and it has had an effect on this country's direction and  role in thhe world.

Well, who will save us from our protectors? By the way, the government is the enemy of the people, and that fact has never been more obvious than now. The government is supposed to serve the people, and now they seem more interested in making the people serve them.
Snowden is the hero and true patriot, and these "anonymous sources" are the goons of the rapidly developing police state

acro2008 reacted to Socaliente in Iraq slipping back into despair.
I think its more amazing that some people respond better to a ruthless dictator forcing them to live their lives a certain way than by having "freedom." I spent roughly 27 months in Iraq and saw people who really have no idea what freedom or democracy is. They voted for leaders that only split the country instead of unting it. Religion rules the region and has destroyed any concept of free will. Just because we remove a tyrant doesnt mean we can change a culture that has been that way for thousands of years. Without a dominant power determining every aspect of the peoples lives, the country lives in chaos. Either by a group like al queda, a ruthless dictator, or by the pressure from the church, the only way these people will live peacefully is thru fear.

Its a shame because there are millions of hard working people there who just want whats best for their families.

And anyone who believes this war was about WMD's, stopping a madman, or later preventing terrorism is a fool. This war was about generating cash for private companies at the expense of iraqi civilians and American troops. Its insane how much money Iraq made for a few elites.
