Owner Arte Moreno, just before serving as grand marshal for a Christmas boat parade in Newport Beach, used the festive occasion to give the team’s fans a steaming lump of coal.
 
“At the end of the day, it really gets down to economics,” explained Moreno, who, economically speaking, still owes Josh Hamilton more than $40 million.
  But signing Hamilton was his mistake, and now he’s asking the Angels fans to pay for it? Good luck with that stance.
 
I can understand why they’d be feeling less than jolly today, less than understanding of Moreno’s reluctance to surpass a luxury tax threshold that, literally, is his problem, not theirs. He’s the one who created this mess.
 
Who knows? Maybe the fans will show their disgust in a meaningful way this time and refuse to buy another three million tickets next season.

I would be fine if they were trying to rebuild now if that was actually what they were trying to do. You don't trade off your two best prospects if you're trying to rebuild, nor do you trade a young, cheap reliever with upside for a one year rental. The FO obviously thinks this team as-is can compete, and that's sad.

Great, now we have a 1st base coach that is going to wave the runner to second after a walk.

You have said many many many dumb things through the years on here, but this has got the be the dumbest.

He's taking the high road as expected. Doesn't do himself any favors but also tried to keep the distractions down for the team.

I liked Weav's emotion there.  It spurred the offense on and we scored a run.  We almost scored again a couple of times but then it wore off and they remembered that they suck.  

I loved what weaver did last night I totally agreed with everything Weaver said. Don't stand in the box and stare at the pitcher with your hand up, everyone is waiting on you.. You're obviously ready to hit if you're standing in the box. You wanna get mouthy take one right in the ribs. Showed some fire and frustration. I definitely didn't think he quit on his team. Weave probably knows this season is dunzo anyways.

Except that wasn't exactly how it went down. We chose to go after Greinke instead of Torrii, then when Greinke was too expensive they went with Hamilton and at that point Hunter had already signed with Detroit.

We dont acquire guys who have a history of drug use.

Signing him.  Cutting bait when they knew it wasn't ever going to work shouldn't be confused with supidity so much as it's admission of their initial stupidity.
 
 
 
Does signing Weaver for less than market value count as stupid or sweet?  Where does trading for Skaggs and Santiago fall?  How about Conger for Trop and Perez?  Street and the subsequent extension?
 
Seems to me their biggest mistakes came from doing things fans wanted to see -- like spending big money or trading for "proven" HR hitters.
