Reveille1984 reacted to Adam in Why isn't Jo Adell getting more playing time?
I am fine with losing if it is intentional in the sense that there's a plan in place to rebuild. Losing with the misguided intent to win is awful. That's why this year sucks.

Reveille1984 reacted to floplag in I was wrong. This is not a .500 team.
It never was really. For that to happen EVERYTHING had to break right, and that never happens.
I thought they would be close, but Rendon down again, Neto and Schanuel not hitting, and too many journeymen in the daily lineup with no real options coming from a bottom 5 farm.
This could be the worst shape the org has ever been in.
Sidenote; Yes i know Sano is hitting now but hes not keeping 300 thru Aug

While that's technically true, does it really make a lot of sense from an overall franchise strategy standpoint to once again not answer the question of whether he can make it? If you run him out there every day for the foreseeable future, that can help answer questions about roster needs in '25 and beyond. Playing him a couple times a week and giving Hicks substantial playing time doesn't answer any of those questions--and it doesn't even help the team be better this year.

No one is crying. The fact is Jo Adell has no MiLB options left. They can’t send him to SLC. This is the year the Angels need to fish or cut bait with him. So it makes no sense to play Hicks ahead of Adell, since Hicks is not part of the team’s future plans. Now is when we have to find out if Adell has what it takes to be an everyday player.

Reveille1984 reacted to Angelsjunky in Nolan Schanuel
Which means that expectations are very different. Half of Neto's value is his defense, while maybe about 10% of Schanuel's value--as a first baseman--is defense. Not to mention base-running.

Reveille1984 got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Is There Something Here?
Canning's fastball velocity has been way down this year, so that definitely isn't helping. He's also almost 28 and has had one serviceable MLB season. He's just not that good.
Sandoval has always had shitty control and high walk rates. Weirdly his velocity is way up this year, might be overthrowing. Similar to Canning, is basically a #3 at his best and more of a 4/5 on average. Also just not very good most of the time.

Maybe they just aren’t that good of pitchers? It may not be a complicated issue at all.

Reveille1984 reacted to samwum in Can Schanuel be competent in 2024?
Whole situation is bizarre. High OBP/Low SLG isn't even a valuable archetype for a 1B. Kid obviously has potential and isn't there yet. He's 6'4 220 and slaps at the ball like Dee Gordon.
At this point I'm wondering if Perry is a little extra motivated to keep Schanuel in the majors in hopes that Schanuel breaks out and Perry can pad his resume a bit.

Reveille1984 reacted to Swiss Angel Fan in Gameday Thread (4/9/24): Rays @ Angels: Sandoval on the mound, no Neto, Schanuel dropped to 7th
Sitting Adell and Sano for Hicks at DH makes no sense. I kinda feel bad for Adell, he deserves more reps.

Zero reason for him to be in the montage to begin with.

Snowflake behavior from our esteemed owner.

Reveille1984 reacted to tdawg87 in Sam Blum interviewed Minasian
Why did we go "all-in" at the deadline and then do a complete 180 in the offseason?
Arte needs to fuck off. And don't get me wrong, I'm ultimately fine with not overspending and keeping the draft picks. But why are we suddenly all about developing players after trading our best prospect and 6 pitchers at the deadline? Does Arte make decisions based on a magic 8 ball?
Hindsight can suck my ass. They should have traded Ohtani and Minasian was evidently willing to do just that. But nah. We might not be able to sign him if we trade him.

Reveille1984 reacted to UndertheHalo in Sam Blum interviewed Minasian
Just got to let it play out and hope for the best. But whatever the front office says. No organization that has any kind of notoriety for functioning well has ever behaved how the Angels behave. It’s the Arte show. He’ll get lucky or he won’t. He probably won’t.

Reveille1984 reacted to Mark68 in SI: "After more breakdowns by Trout and Rendon, Moreno told Balelo early in free agency he was out on Ohtani"
So, if Arte knew he wasn't going to re-sign Ohtani, then WTF did he not allow Perry to trade him?
Fucking Arte...

Reveille1984 reacted to AngelsLakersFan in SI: "After more breakdowns by Trout and Rendon, Moreno told Balelo early in free agency he was out on Ohtani"
Signing Ohtani was probably never a good baseball decision for the Angels. Not trading him wasnt either.

Reveille1984 reacted to OregonLAA in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon hoping to avoid more injuries in his ‘job’
If he cares about his family so much he should hang up his cleats. But he won’t. He wants the money. Dude has been a schmuck since he arrived. I’m super excited to see him slap a bunch of singles around for a few weeks before he gets hurt

Reveille1984 got a reaction from Pancake Bear in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon hoping to avoid more injuries in his ‘job’
Nobody really cares whether he likes baseball or not, it's how he carries himself. He's the living embodiment of "you're not wrong, you're just an asshole".
It's a lot easier to deal with a personality like that when he's an MVP candidate and one of the best players in baseball. The schtick starts to grow old when you can't stay on the field with a quarter billion dollar contract.

Reveille1984 reacted to Taylor in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon hoping to avoid more injuries in his ‘job’
I respect a man who puts his kids and marriage before his job. He's right; it's just a job. But he's not a software programmer or ad salesman. Millions of strangers from around the world watch his "job" for entertainment. More than that, so many kids dream of playing Major League Baseball but only a fraction of a percent ever get that chance.
He could show some humility and gratefulness for getting to do something very, very few people ever get to do — AND still prioritize his family life. He makes more than enough money to allow for quality time with wife and kids all throughout the year.

Reveille1984 reacted to Blarg in The Athletic's 8-minute survey for Angel fans: RESULTS
If you disagree with the survey outcome it could be just your POV. But from the majority of the threads and responses on Angelswin over the last couple seasons, this poll seems to reflect the members opinions here more than not.
