DCAngelsFan got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Shohei Ohtani to AP in a Japanese interview: “I have a rather negative impression of the season”
Well, it's not that they don't want him to stay with the Angels, exactly; most every one of these stories barely hide the raging hard-on the commentator have on getting Ohtani on "their" favorite team, and the only way that happens next season is a trade.
We're going to have to listen to it every single damn day next season, about, how we're "wasting his prime" and boy, wouldn't he look great in pinstripes and have that short porch in RF?
Just like Trout, until he signed.

I just want him gone already. Hopefully, the next ownership will actually invest in the entire franchise and not just on overrated hitters.

It's not about what they did in 2019, 2020, or 2021 and even 2022 for that matter.
It's about what they have now.  At multiple positions.
There are several spots where the team can improve over internal options.  And they'll clearly have a budget unless something unlikely happens.
Sucking at a position 2 years ago is just noise relative to your decision making for 2023.  If that were relevant, we should consider finding someone for 3b.
An upgrade at SS is gonna cost a shit ton and require a long term commitment.  Is that gonna be worth the upgrade when you can likely get more bang for your buck in LF or for the 700 at bats your gonna need from the bench?  Or pushing someone like Tucker Davidson out of the rotation or some waiver pickup down on the depth chart.
If you're gonna go big money on someone, do it for 1yr.  And make it in a spot where you get the most potential bang for buck.

Adell is either ultra stubborn or thick or both.  My guess is it's more the former than the latter.  OR he's just being given bad advice.  Like 'keep doing what you're doing', 'plugging away and it'll get better'.
There are a couple of fundamental flaws with his game both offensively and defensively.   Both he, and maybe the Angels as well keep thinking his quick twitch athleticism will eventually take over and turn him into a baseball player.  I've said this before and I'll say it again.  He's not a baseball player.  In my opinion, they've either been approaching his development all wrong or he's just not listening.
He's a great athlete.  He's not a great baseball athlete.  I would argue that his eye hand coordination isn't all that great as it relates to his peers.  In fact, both at the plate and on defense it's very often looked awkward as shit.
His 'athleticism' isn't going to come through if they don't almost kinda go back to the fundamentals with him in some ways.  And I say in some ways because it would really take him much time if they did it right.  I don't know if this is the greatest example, I look at a guy like Josh Allen and his development on the football field.  He's a freak when it comes to tools but they either forced or he accepted taking a fundamental approach as a QB to go from that guy with tools into an actual QB.
They seem to have done this on the defensive side with him because they recognized his lack of experience as a LFer and there's nuance to recognizing the way the bat comes off the ball and no amount of 'tools' would allow you to overcome poor technique and a lack of experience.
How come they're not doing this with him at the plate?  To me, and maybe I'm wrong, players should be developing pitch recognition and over time you develop this 'bank' of stuff you know how to hit and hit hard.  Do you know why he's got a 4% bb rate, a 38% k rate, at .224 BA and a .336 BABIP?  Because he's never been taught or told or he's just not listening that he literally needs to make contact and his bat speed will do the rest.  But no.  It's see ball, swing as hard as you can at ball.  The other thought is that he has been working on this an he just sucks at it but I don't think so.
And a couple of other things.  He's gotten worse this year at the major league level because now pitchers have seen him and they know how to approach him.  And no about of 'adjustments' to how they approach him etc. is going to help unless he spends some time actually working on making.  friggin. contact.
The second thing, which correlates to the first, is that AAA is worthless for him.  The ball doesn't spin the same way it does any where else.  It's just a false sense of security.
Do you know why I'm cautiously optimistic about a guy like Rengifo and what he's doing?  Because even though his walk rate is low, he's got 38 extra base hits and a 15% walk rate with a babip of .308 in his last 382 plate appearances.  and that 10% bb rate will show up when it needs to.  And if it doesn't need to, he'll just keep hitting the shit out of the ball if they keep throwing him pitches that he can hit the shit out of.  In other words, he's now got that data bank of pitches that he can hit hard and pitchers have to figure out how to work around that.
Adell doesn't.  He's literally swiss cheese at the plate and all a pitcher has to do is hope they don't get unlucky that 3-5% of the time where he guesses right and the bat happens to meet the ball for that 450 foot hr over both bullpens.

Honestly, I don't think the Angels can win a wild card, let alone the division with a 6 man rotation. You have to rely on a 6th level pitcher filling in for 26+ starts. But it's more than that. You are reducing your top 3 pitchers by 6 starts each. That's potentially 18 quality starts thrown away and put in the hands of a 6th starter. It makes winning harder by the percentage of reducing the amount your best pitchers and adding it to your worst.
Look at it this way 32 starts from Ohtani, Sandoval, Detmers and Suarez override whatever a weak 5th starter logs. But reducing those four to 26 games and now you are adding 26 games to a pitcher probably worse than Lorenzen and you still have to find a couple Lorenzen to pitch the 5th and 6th game.
So we are back to sourcing 2 pitchers in the off season, hoping for another Syndergaard reclamation? Hoping someone from the minors can pull off a Detmers season?
This is diminishing returns ceding to Ohtani's 6 man rotation.

I have to admit.  I don't care who wins, but I'd love to see Ohtani win it just to annoy the living shit out of Yankee fans who are still bent that he won the ROY over their boy Andujar.   The flipside.  I'd love for Judge to win it, then sign with the Giants just to hear the same Yankee fans lose their shit.
Basically, I'm just in it for the LOLs at this point.

Based on this, I have to think MLB will pressure Arte to not do a majority deal with Shiong by telling him they won't vote to approve.   At least I hope so, I really don't like this description of him - he sounds potentially worse than Arte (I dunno how he made his money with his cancer drug - if he didn't build his business from the ground up and learn the value of long-term planning and patience, if he just hit a lottery with his invention, then no thanks)

It'll probably be a group with some primary money guys , some baseball figure (hopefully not Pujols 😳 but more likely an exec like Epstein), some wealthy people with ties to the area, (which could also be the money guys), and various / assorted rich celebrities, like some movie producer, and some members from underrepresented communities.
edit:  Ohtani may bring some Japanese money to the table - but imo, that interest would be based on signing him to an extension

I think so. The impending Ohtani free agency might be a catalyst for that. Though I base that on absolutely nothing.
The new owner may want to make an immediate impact like Arte did in 2004. Same as above.

DCAngelsFan reacted to Warfarin in OC Register: Angels’ Taylor Ward on the upswing again after summer slump
Marsh was parlayed into an exciting prospect, so while it's a bummer he's gone, the trade did make sense to me.  Adell still has time, but he needs to make massive, massive strides in his plate discipline.  I'm not optimistic on his future, but we'll see.
That said - if Ward can be a solid RF, then all we really need to find is a LF, which shouldn't be too hard.  1B and LF are usually the easiest spots to fill.
I think the long-term future of our middle infield looks very good, with promising prospects Neto and Paris in AA.  One of Fletcher or Rengifo should help make for a solid core, but I think it'd be good to have a decent backup option next year to play the middle infield.  If either Fletcher or Rengifo gets hurt next year, we'll likely see poor production from the middle infield without a solid backup.
So to summarize - I think we need to find a LHH OF, a solid utility middle infielder, and probably a solid 1B/3B backup, given that both Rendon and Walsh are giant question marks.  That backup may be Thaiss, who knows, but it'd probably be wise to bring in another player, too.
A lineup next year of, say:  Rengifo 2B, Trout CF, Ohtani DH, Rendon 3B, Pederson/Gallo LF (either option would be decent), Ward RF, Walsh 1B, Stassi C, Fletcher SS, with a bench of "veteran backup C," Thaiss C/1B/3B, a middle infield signing, and OF Moniak should be a pretty solid lineup.  If Walsh struggles to return to form, perhaps he can be supplanted at first by Thaiss.

I'm not as optimistic about Walsh recovering - but if we can get 2021 Walsh back, that'd help quite a bit.  But If we think this is his ceiling, we need a plan "b" here
We're short an outfielder, to be sure - Nimmo or Benintendi would fit nicely - mostly, need to find guys who don't make so many outs - like you said about Ward, we need guys with solid OBP skills to surround Trout, Ohtani, and (knock wood), Rendon.
I'd hoped that by next year, we'd have a really solid and exciting OF of Marsh, Adell and Trout ...

Yeah.  I think he's probably an 850-ish OPS type player - solid eye, draws walks, etc.  Not a star, but a very solid player, which is really all a team with Trout, Ohtani, and (maybe?) Rendon needs.
Getting both Ward and Walsh back healthy would go a long way towards helping improve this offense.  I think the teams needs another solid OF (preferably a LHH), and another solid bench player (or two), but it's not too hard to see how this offense can improve with some better help and some fairly small scale moves.
