Are there any updates on Nate Smith? It’s approaching one year since he underwent surgery. Julio Urias underwent the same surgery and it took a year and change until he was able to make a rehab appearance and even then Urias has looked like a shell of his former self which from some cursory research appears to be the norm for this kind of surgery.

I think one of the interesting things to watch if Price gets TJ is if he opts into his contract after 2018 and the Sox are on the hook for 4 seasons of 30mil+ on a pitcher coming back from TJ. Would this cause teams to stop offering these massive contracts with early year opt outs banking on said player opting out. I assume this wouldn't really affect things, but maybe this locks out smaller market clubs from reeling in big FAs, not that small market clubs were truly big players in FA anyway.

Let me actually try to tackle this.  It is not fair to blame a law or voters for the actions of a person.  There are many factors at work here.  Now, regarding the law.  California is in a difficult position with overcrowded jails and a gigantic budget deficit.  I get why they are trying to thin the population of prisons.  
However, why don't we talk about all of the inmates whose crimes are drug related.  It would seem prudent to me to let out non violent offenders early and exhaust that completely before releasing violent offenders.

Big outfield,  so cal, low fan expectations,  no DH = perfect spot for dream weaver. Im hoping he increases the velocity back to 86- 87 and has some moderate success.

Man, listen to yourself.  What makes you think that any public money is being spent.  What makes you think that any american is losing out on anything because of something like this ?  Who cares if she comes here for a surgery.  Theres no evidence that they'd be staying.  Do you seriously begrudge a toddler medical treatment because she's a foreigner ?  seriously this is a new one for me.  Apparently people coming here for life saving surgery is now an unbearable burden.
