Frieri Meatball reacted to BILLYMACREXANDGUBI in Is Trading Trout Realistic?
Sorry, I don't subscribe to the theory of throwing out the baby with the bath water. You aren't an Angels fan if you want to move Trout because you think that equals winning. You really think that's all it will take? What if some of those players don't pan out? Do we get to blame you? LOL.
I would be a fan of some over team if all I cared about was winning. And I do care about winning. Think I like having to talk to crappy Dodgers fan who love saying the Angels are wasting Trout and all that nonsense. Life isn't fair.. maybe you haven't learned that lesson. The Angels will be good again you just have to believe and let the guys do it on the field. I've seen way worse teams play better than these guys are right now.

Frieri Meatball reacted to BTH in Ken Rosenthal article on the possibility of an Ohtani trade
Fans ask that question. So do people inside the game. But the Angels, at least to this point, do not intend to rebuild like the Nationals. And while general manager Perry Minasian will fulfill his duties by listening to overtures on Ohtani, owner Arte Moreno holds the final say, and few with knowledge of his thinking expect him to approve a deal.
Moreno, in the words of a person who knows him well, likes “bright shiny objects,” as evidenced by his series of splashy free-agent signings over the years, from Albert Pujols to Josh Hamilton to Anthony Rendon. Ohtani is perhaps the brightest, shiniest object of all, and he generates around $10 million of advertising revenue annually, according to the Los Angeles Times. In addition, the person said, Moreno knows he is a target of fan unrest with the team likely to miss the playoffs for the eighth straight year, and “doesn’t want to be vilified more.”

    LOL
If you don’t want to be “vilified more,” invest in player development, stop treating your employees like trash, and let your GM have full autonomy to do what’s best for the team and not what you think will “vilify” you.

This is the worst I've ever felt as an Angels fan.
In the 90's we had bad to decent teams with low budgets. They had some upside, great rotations, tempered hopes, and moments of exceeding expectations.
Going into 2000s we spent starting with Vaughn in 1999. We had an incredible decade with high budgets and great teams.
Now 2010's we have high budgets and terrible to mediocre teams. I'd rather go back to the 90's.

The core group is better than how they are performing.  Before adding or subtracting players, the Angels need to fix their player development infrastructure.

Well if Arte truly believes he will go over the tax for the right guy, Shohei is the right guy.
What I expect is a Shohei extension while putting some other pieces in place to make us more competitive while we wait for our pitching in the minors to mature.
Something like Shohei extension, if Syndergaard is still a halo (which he shouldn’t be) an extension to him,  Dansby signing, sign one reliever to a one year deal. Go into the season with an expectation that the pen is what they expected them to be this year.  That increase the annual payroll by about $25 million or so.
Hell, I don’t even know what they will do in the next 12 days, I wouldn’t be surprised with a Syndergaard trade and a trade to bring back one of the two premium starters on the market for next year.

Trout is becoming more part of the problem than the solution.  I don’t feel bad for him not making the playoffs any more but I do feel for Ohtani.  Fragile Mikey needs to focus on staying healthy and playing like a star again.  If he sits tomorrow and then plays in the ASG that will tell us all we need to know about what’s important to him.

Arte, hire a damn President who. knows Baseball instead of your billboard guys. Let that person rebuild the organization. He (or she) gets to hire their own people to fill out the rest of the Front Office positions. The President then makes the budget for payroll limits and player acquisition. He gets to the establish his own structure for the whole organization. He can establish an ‘Angels way to play’ complete with new, better psid instructors and Managers for the Minor League players.

Mostly though, trust the President that you hire and stay out of the way.

Because he didn’t value defense, because they had to put someone from the front office into the dugout to assure he used information given to him, because he was such an excellent communicator he made the decision to displace his generational player in CF while not talking to the generational player, oh and he lost 12 in a row and his solution to it was to get a Mohawk.

This franchise is in shambles. Arte only cares about big names but he’s not investing in the minors or scouting or just having a good foundation. He’s a terrible owner. There’s a reason the Cardinals and Astros can lost star players and still be in the playoffs every year. This is awful to watch and care about.

No, the trade Ohtani and/or Trout shit needs to stop. Obviously, if Shohei doesn’t want to be here anymore then you gotta bite the bullet, but he comes off as extremely loyal to the organization. Arte just needs to stop pussyfooting with the luxury tax and start spending on quality so Ohtani doesn’t bail after next season.
This team will become an even bigger laughingstock if Ohtani is traded. It’ll be like when the Red Sox traded Ruth.

It's a moot point because Arte will never let it happen.

Arte, you've meddled enough. Sell the team.

    Punt on the season!
Next month, trade Loup, Tepera, and Thor.
Then release Rengifo, Wade, and Lagares.
Rengifo has had plenty of time to develop, but still can’t hit and can’t field.  He’s 25, but still plays like he did at 22.  No change whatsoever

@Vladfan I was one of those who was excited about the Joe Maddon hiring. It wasn't until I started hearing and reading comments from Rays and Cubs fans that Angels fans are going to be perplexed and ultimately become down right frustrated with him before too long.
I overlooked their comments until I started to see him in action over the past 2+ years. I have never been happier after a managerial firing than this one and I couldn't stand Ausmus.

Nevin doesn't exactly inspire confidence, and doesn't solve the issue of Trout/Ohtani turtling when the team needs them most

He is fine. We need him to build confidence if he's going to become a front rotation type guys, a 2 or 3. You don't get that by being moved up and down. Anybody that thinks Barria is a better pitcher than Detmers is nuts. Detmers is 22 with better velocity, movement, off-speed, and an actual wipeout pitch. Barria is who he is--an innings eating, 4.50 ERA guy that has a low 90's FB with very little movement and 2 average off-speed pitches. That's not a better option than what we want Detmers to become. He's 22 and learning. You leave him in unless his ERA climbs above 6. They gave another young lefty 15 starts and 75 innings to figure it out, he got rocked but learned. Came back the next year and was phenomenal in 14 starts (Sandoval).

What’s funny is that Rojas isnt a very experienced player himself.  He’s just playing Rojas cuz, reasons.  It’s not like he’s lighting the world on fire.  The Rojas thing is very bizarre.  This is a bench player at best and he’s taking reps from their most highly regarded prospect/player in a decade.  I guess Adell is playing today.  When Ward comes back they need to send him down to AAA.  Play him every day or don’t.  I’ve never been big on 2nd guessing managers.  Maybe that’s  the Scioscia effect - but I find myself really not liking Maddon often.

Best player plays.  Adell is better than Rojas, sorry.
If Maddon wants to ruin Adell, or turn him into a scrub, the time share will do it, for sure.
