The statheads of the world have to stop watching box scores more than the games... they are the one killing it and creating all these selfish asshat players that care more for thier stats than anything else... they have to, or it costs them money and such... its a joke as far as im concerned.
Stats have their place.. i too am a stats guy, but there is more to the game than pure stats, period.

bottom line is does he want to be here long term... no amount of money is going to change that if he doesnt.  i would hope by now that ownership has inquired about the long term intent considering he is an east coast guy when not in season... i dont know how that will afect the long term plans but i hope ownership has some ideas
if he doenst plan to stay long term then we cannot miss out on what might be the trade of the century... though i hope it doesnt come to that

i love this assumption that i dont understand the age thing, when i have stated multiple times in this thread i get it, i simply disagree in this case.
i get that he is a 25 year old FA... i get that he would perform better over the next 5 years... i am 100% clear on all that... the point, once again, is that i do not think he is worth the rumored money over that time as we wont get value for said performance.
 
you guys are expecting Darvish part 2, this is not it.  i have given multiple stats, sources, and reference3s to back up the calim and all i keep getting are generalities in return... lets focus on this player.
 
There are warning signs that this is a much bigger risk than many of you seem to want to see... thats fine i guess., but to me the risk is too great.  i understand the team needs, i get it.  but desperation moves are not going to help us especially when they leave us with no flexibility in payroll, and no way to address any other issues.
 
If this was a 50 mil guy i would be all over it... if this contract was Darvish money without the posting fee i would be ok with it... i am not ok with paying twice what darvish got regardless of the changes in posting and economy.. im simply not, not when we are talking about a lesser pitcher,

Im not as high on Tanaka as others... but if we add another good pitchers i think we are in the mix.
For me last year was a bit of a abomination in that everything that could have gone wrong pretty much did, we were not as bad as we performed.

Kinda moot really, the new process just means everyone ponies up 20 mil and he becomes a free agent limited to negotiating with those who paid.... after that its whoever ponies up the contract cash

I am on of those peoples that values stats, however, i also value what i observe on the field during games.. i did not want to lose Trumbo, but i think the deal was fair and perhaps very good if both those guys work out.
There is a lot that stats dont take into account... Trumbo has perhaps one of the most raw powerful bats in the game... capable of hitting balls out of stadiums. that is not easily replaced.  Things like that can demoralize opposing pitchers.  but getting him to K can invigorate them as well.
 
I see a lot of articles lately that have as many acronyms as they do actual words.. and thats fine, thats baseball today i guess... but there is more to the game than the stat sheets.  These things may not reflect in the boxscore and may not have as great an effect on the outcome of the game, but that doesnt make them disappear.
 
Thing about the players we have loved over the years on this team.. that didnt have great stats according to the SABR guys, but were some of the best loved guys that came thru at huge times.  We joke around here about grit, guts, etc... as someone who played the game, i still think those things are better than a punchline.
 
Again, i think the trade made sense, even though i  was against it i think it was fair... time will tell.. but i for one will miss the big guy and that presence in the lineup.

Everyone seems to both like and hate it at the same time and even the talking heads are talking out the side of whatever they talk out of on both sides of the coin.
 
Like or hate the trade, it seems balanced and fair to all with us having possibly the best long term results if the arms live up to the hype.

i would like to see the pundits on twitter stfu and let things happen before poo poo ing them... jsut a thought, lol

Cant say i get this one.. i mean i know it would have costa little more but the guy was a solid as anything in the back end of the rotation and bullpen options, and now we have another hole to fill
